Technical Writer II - Computing Services

CMU’s Computing Services department is searching for a Technical Writer II to join their team.
Under limited supervision, responsible for writing technical materials for various company publications including but not limited to communications, instructional guides, web and marketing content. Researches available internal specifications, reports and currently published content to inform writing. Interviews subject matter and participates on project teams to gather relevant technical information. Recommends communication approach and plan for approval by lead or manager and then executes the approved plan. Requires knowledge of division services, document standards and industry best practices. Works with other technical writers and strategists to document and improve editorial process and standards. Reports frequently to the manager of Web and Communications.
Your core responsibilities will include:
75% Content analysis, development and delivery: web content, instructional guides, marketing materials, communications; including content usability testing of content.
20% User experience evaluation with service team collaboration to recommend improvements.
Community outreach: service specific outreach activities and student outreach events.
Training and level-one support for web publishing services.
May participate in and support service-specific community outreach events.
5% Other duties as assigned.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and with frequent interruptions.
Ability to pay close attention to detail; keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records.
Visual acuity to perform activities such as extended use of a computer monitor, extensive reading, transcribing, analyzing data and figures, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines, using measurement devices, and/or assembly of parts at distances close to the eye.
Walking and standing, bending and lifting are occasionally required. May be required to travel to and work at various locations on campus.

Decisions may affect a work unit or department. Job may contribute to business and operational decisions.
Working Conditions:
Required to work normal business hours; evening and weekend work may occasionally be required.
Accountability:
Accountable for the successful completion of individual goals and priorities.
Direction:
Receives little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments.
Supervision:
Not responsible for supervising others.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
Strong Oral and Written Communication Skills
3-5 Years of Relevant Work Experience
3-5 Years of Technical Writing Experience
