Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute is searching for a Robotics Engineer to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the technical design and development of components and equipment used in research and development.

  • Develops, modifies and maintains operating protocols/procedures and related technical documentation.

  • Identifies operating or installation problems. Recommends design modifications and or solutions.

  • Perform related technical support for the engineering team.

  • Performs related work as required.

  • Tests design and operation and performance of equipment and components.

  • The candidate is expected to be able to manage contributing to multiple projects at once while providing clear communication and documentation throughout the process.

  • The core responsibility of the robotics engineer is to design, build, and test robotic systems to support research and development within the Biorobotics Lab.

  • This role involves developing solutions across multiple domains (including but not limited to software, electrical, and mechanical engineering) while closely collaborating with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 1-3 Years of Engineering Design Process Experience

  • 1-3 Years of Engineering Experience

  • 1-3 Years of Technical Writing Experience

  • Strong Analytical Skills

  • Effective Oral & Written Communication Skills

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to maintain composure when dealing with difficult situations and/or individuals.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and with frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail; keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records.

  • Ability to understand and follow directions.

  • Ability to work well with others and/or as part of a team.

  • Visual acuity to perform activities such as extended use of a computer monitor, extensive reading, transcribing,

  • Analyzing data and figures, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines, Using measurement devices, and/or assembly of parts at distances close to the eye.

Accountability:

  • Accountable for the successful completion of individual goals and priorities.

Direction:

  • Receives little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments.

Training:

  • OSHA Hazardous Materials Safety Training
