About the Role:
As a CBRE Union Building Engineer, you will be responsible for monitoring building system operations and performance. You will oversee various areas including plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating, and cooling.
This job is part of the Engineering and Technical Services job function. They are responsible for providing support, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment and systems.
What You’ll Do:
- Perform maintenance and repairs to the mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems, CRAH/CRAH units, Generators, Switchgear, UPS Systems, PDUs, BMS systens for the facility and building. Keep the systems up to applicable standards as assigned.
- Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agencies, and company directives related to building operations and work safety.
- Maintain an energy management program to ensure all systems operate in the most efficient manner.
- Assist with the implementation of a preventive maintenance program to ensure that building machinery and systems meet or exceed their rated life. Perform emergency repairs as needed.
- operation, maintenance, and reliability of all critical mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems, including chillers, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, fire/life-safety systems, and building automation/BMS controls. Act as the senior on‑site technical authority for all infrastructure systems.
- Follow departmental policies for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
- Review inspections to building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions prescribed by the client.
- Apply general knowledge of standard principles and techniques/procedures to accomplish assigned tasks and solve routine problems.
- Review, interpret, and validate critical system readings, including UPS performance, breaker status, load levels, temperatures, water chemistry, and utilities consumption; ensure accurate and complete documentation.
- Maintain oversight of spare parts inventory, including critical spares for mechanical and electrical equipment, ensuring availability for emergency repairs and preventive tasks.
- Develop, refine, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), MOPs, EOPs, Job Hazard Analyses, and other critical facility documentation, ensuring they meet corporate, regulatory, and data center industry standards.
- Have a broad knowledge of own job discipline and some knowledge of several job disciplines within the function.

- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including system optimization, energy efficiency improvements, and automation enhancements to improve reliability and reduce operating costs.
- Collaborate with data center management and cross-functional teams to ensure facility readiness, operational excellence, and alignment with business objectives.
What You’ll Need:
- High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 3-4 years of job-related experience. In lieu of a diploma, a combination of experience and education will be considered. Universal CFC certification is preferred. Certifications/licenses as may be required by local or state jurisdictions.
- Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
- Understanding of existing procedures and standards to solve slightly complex problems.
- Ability to analyze possible solutions using technical experience and apply appropriate judgment and precedents.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset.
- Advanced math skills. Ability to calculate complicated figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial-related calculations.
- Ability to work Shifts that may include nights, weekends and holidays.

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the Union Data Center Engineer position is $94,536 / $45.45 hr annually and the maximum salary of $94,536/$45.45 hr annually . The compensation offered to a successful candidate will depend on their skills, qualifications, and experience.
