Chewy is looking to hire a Full Stack Software Engineer II (with a strong backend focus) to join our Chewy Vet Care team in Seattle, WA. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is self-motivated, and has a passion for both business and technology. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining Java-based components and front-end interfaces using modern technologies. What You'll Do:
Design, build, and maintain both backend services and front-end interfaces that enable rich, responsive experiences for customers and internal users.
Lead and participate in medium to large-scale projects by reviewing requirements, translating them into technical solutions, gathering information, writing and developing code, conducting unit testing, communicating status and issues to collaborators, solving open issues and bugs, and ensuring on-time delivery and handoff.
Work with both Java-based microservices and front-end technologies like React.
Perform design and code reviews across both backend and frontend codebases.
Create and implement a shift-left approach in testing and test-driven development.
Work with a geo-distributed team in an agile development environment.
Collaborate closely with Application Development and Architecture teams.
Champion engineering excellence and focus on scalability, resiliency, high availability, and performance.
Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development.
Mentor and support peers, contributing to Chewy’s internal engineering community.
Work with key partners and service providers to build impactful technical solutions.
What You'll Need:
Strong knowledge and proven expertise with Java and Spring-based REST services.
Hands-on engineering mindset with a focus on writing high-quality, maintainable code.
Experience building and integrating frontend applications using React and GraphQL.
Strong understanding of Java concurrency, thread-safe design patterns, and cloud-native development in AWS.
Familiarity with messaging systems like Kafka or ActiveMQ.
Experience with modern tools and environments including GitHub, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
BS degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Willingness to travel, if required.
Bonus:
Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
Experience with GitHub and AWS or other cloud platforms.
Strong understanding of API design and development at scale.
Working knowledge of frontend architecture, including component-driven design.
Experience in the eCommerce domain is a plus.
The base salary range for this role is $120,000 - $190,000.00.
The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.

Exempt salary team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
