About the Role

We are advancing our Python-based rating infrastructure. This will allow Chubb to deploy, test, and evolve pricing logic at pace and with precision.

The AVP, Rating Platform Software Engineer, will lead the technical build-out of this infrastructure. This leader will design and develop internal pricing services, set architectural direction for our Python rating ecosystem, align fragmented patterns across lines of business and partner closely with actuarial, product, and implementation teams to translate filed rating plans into production-grade code.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role spanning BOP today, with expansion planned across Commercial Property, General Liability, Workers Compensation, and Commercial Auto. The opportunity is to establish engineering patterns, testing rigor, and scalable architecture that will define how we build and ship rating capability for the next decade.

What You Will Own

Rating Engine Development & Architecture

  • Design, build, and maintain internal Python-based pricing services and data models supporting actuarial and product teams across commercial lines
  • Develop and enhance rating engine services that support multiple lines of business and enable extensible, account-level pricing
  • Create product configuration services that allow product owners to safely update coverage options and pricing parameters
  • Operate as a hands-on technical leader: roughly 30-40 percent in code, 60-70 percent in system design, architecture review, and PR review
  • Establish engineering standards, design patterns, and reusable components that scale across lines of business

Testing, Quality & Production Confidence

  • Develop best-in-class, scalable testing infrastructure that ensures confidence in rating accuracy, both in production and across the Python rating infrastructure
  • Build automated validation frameworks to support UAT, regression testing, and ensure rating compliance
  • Partner with implementation teams to ensure consistency between filed rating plans and deployed code

Data Integration & Predictive Modeling Enablement

  • Integrate and validate third-party data sources for pricing segmentation and predictive modeling
  • Enable dislocation analysis across lines to support model development and implementation
  • Occasionally build and deploy predictive models
  • Partner with data science and actuarial teams to operationalize models within the rating infrastructure

Squad Leadership in a Dotted-Line Agile Framework

  • Lead a dotted-line squad of onshore and offshore developers operating in an agile delivery model, with accountability for keeping the squad on task
  • Set sprint priorities, unblock dependencies, and drive delivery cadence across squad members who report formally to other managers
  • Provide technical direction through code review, architectural guidance, and active mentorship
  • Establish working agreements, intake discipline, and prioritization frameworks that protect squad capacity from ad hoc demand
  • Partner with offshore people managers to provide input on performance, growth, and retention of squad members
  • Collaborate closely with implementation teams across commercial insurance to develop standardized patterns and scalable solutions
  • Partner with actuarial, platform engineering, and implementation teams to align on requirements, sequencing, and delivery

  • 6+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, actuarial systems development, or insurance technology, with demonstrated technical leadership
  • Hands-on mastery of Python and SQL, and fluency operating in AI-native workflows (Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent). This leader must be able to write, review, and architect production code from day one
  • Demonstrated experience building or significantly contributing to a rating engine, pricing system, or comparable rules- and calculation-driven service
  • Track record of establishing testing frameworks and engineering quality practices in a production environment
  • Strong system design instincts: API design, service architecture, separation of concerns, and building for extensibility
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate between actuarial logic, product requirements, and engineering implementation
  • Comfort operating in a regulated, multi-stakeholder environment where speed, rigor, and compliance must coexist

Preferred

  • P&C insurance background with exposure to commercial lines
  • Familiarity with filed rating plans, rating bureau frameworks (ISO, NCCI), or actuarial pricing concepts
  • Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, or comparable cloud data platforms
  • Experience with Duck Creek, Guidewire, or similar policy administration platforms
  • Exposure to predictive modeling workflows and integrating models into production pricing systems
  • Experience building engineering functions or technical capabilities from an existing codebase
  • Background in financial services or other regulated technology environments with clear aptitude and willingness to learn the commercial insurance domain
