Position Summary:

If you’re eager to make a real impact in the health care industry through your own meaningful contributions, explore a role in technology with CVS Health. Our journey calls for technical innovators and visionaries: come help us pave the way in transforming pharmacy prior authorization product and solutions for CAS (Clinical Authorization System).

As Senior Manager, Software Engineering, you will provide technical leadership and engineering oversight across multiple agile product teams building mission‑critical CAS capabilities. You will drive engineering outcomes across the full SDLC, provide architectural guidance, coach engineers, and help define the future of CAS as we transform from a large on‑prem system to a modern cloud‑ready platform (Azure/GCP). This role requires depth in full‑stack engineering, strong engineering fundamentals, and proven team leadership in enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead engineering teams delivering secure, performant, scalable features across CAS.
  • Oversee the end‑to‑end SDLC: design, development, code reviews, quality engineering, deployment, and support.
  • Drive adoption of engineering best practices including clean architecture, modular design, code quality, and performance optimization.
  • Ensure engineering teams consistently meet delivery commitments while raising quality and predictability.

Technical Strategy & Architecture

  • Partner with architecture to shape API‑first, microservices‑aligned, event‑driven designs for future‑state CAS.
  • Guide teams through decomposition of legacy monolith components into cloud‑ready services.
  • Define technical roadmaps and influence cross‑team engineering decisions.
  • Drive innovation initiatives, promoting a culture of creativity, experimentation, and learning. This includes leveraging Artificial Intelligence in the automation and augmentation of clinical processes; leveraging FHIR/HL7 services to drive interoperability and electronic health record integration; and increase product development velocity using AI.

Agile & Project Delivery

  • Lead agile project execution across multiple scrum teams; partner with product owners on sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release planning.
  • Identify risks, remove roadblocks, and ensure transparency across stakeholders.
  • Support scaling ceremonies and multi‑team coordination frameworks (Scrum of Scrums, ART‑level planning where applicable).

Quality, Security & Operational Excellence

  • Embed test‑first development: unit, integration, contract testing and automation-first mindset.
  • Enforce security-by-design, secure coding standards, dependency hygiene, and API versioning discipline.
  • Collaborate with DevSecOps, SRE, and Platform Engineering to ensure reliability, observability, and operational readiness.

People Leadership

  • Mentor engineers and technical leads; foster a high‑trust, high‑performance engineering culture.
  • Build career paths, support upskilling, and cultivate technical excellence.
  • Promote psychological safety, constructive challenge, and continuous learning.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Product, QA, DevSecOps, SRE, Data Engineering, and UX organizations.
  • Communicate technical strategy and trade-offs to business and engineering stakeholders.
  • Influence engineering culture across CAS through documentation, standards, and best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, including enterprise-scale delivery.
  • 3+ years leading engineering teams or technical leads.
  • Strong technical background in at least one modern engineering stack (e.g., .NET, Java, Node, Angular or similar).
  • Experience building distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-ready architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, code quality practices, and secure SDLC.
  • Strong communication skills and proven ability to collaborate across multi-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud transformation initiatives (Azure and/or GCP), containerization, and modernization.
  • Experience scaling engineering teams in high-complexity enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with domain-driven design (DDD), event-driven architecture (EDA), and API-first ecosystems.
  • Certifications: SAFe Agile, Azure/GCP Engineering, or similar.
  • Domain experience in Pharmacy Benefit Management, Health Insurance, Clinical Utilization Management Products, or Prior Authorization.
  • Experience in healthcare, retail, or pharmacy environments.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (HIPAA, PCI DSS, FedRAMP).

Education:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required.

· Master’s degree preferred.

Culture Fit:

  • Mission-aligned engineering
  • Cloud-native acceleration
  • Empowered team culture
  • Outcome-driven delivery
  • Quality by design
  • Seamless collaboration
  • Constructive challenge
  • Sustainable work norms
