Join us as a Staff Software Development Engineer within the Shared Services and Advanced Technology (SSAT) organization. In this role, you will leverage your technical expertise in Spring Microservices and AWS cloud computing to lead and collaborate with full‑time engineers and contracted cross‑functional teams. You will drive end‑to‑end delivery across multiple IT initiatives of varying size and complexity throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
As an Applications Development Senior Manager, you will oversee one or more engineering scrum teams, ensuring high‑quality technical delivery. You will guide impact analysis, solution design, and code development activities for software releases supporting the Aetna Technology IT systems. Success in this role requires strong technical depth, functional understanding, and excellent interpersonal skills.
You will report to the Application Domain Leader and partner closely with technical leads, product teams, architects, business stakeholders, and project managers to deliver business innovation across our technology ecosystem—primarily Spring Microservices, MongoDB, ODM, AWS Cloud Services, Kafka/MQ, and the Spring Boot framework.
As a Technical Lead overseeing one or more Scrum teams, you will partner closely with engineering groups and multiple application teams to strengthen and expand our IT delivery ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure technical solutions proposed by Solution Architects align with the domain’s technology stack and enterprise architecture guidelines.
- Safeguard application resiliency, stability, performance, and data integrity through appropriate technical design and implementation practices.
- Collaborate with Product, Architecture, and other Technical Leads to translate feature requirements into well‑designed, innovative solutions that balance business needs and technical considerations.
- Mentor and guide engineering teams to ensure high‑quality, consistent, and timely technical delivery.
- Serve as the DevSecOps Champion, ensuring domain security policies are current, aligned with best practices, and effectively communicated to strengthen organizational security culture.
- Demonstrate expert-level understanding of programming languages, development frameworks, and industry technology trends.
- Support transparency and stakeholder engagement by communicating progress and challenges through Agile SAFe/Scrum practices.
- Ensure technical components meet DevSecOps (DSO) Maturity Level 5 (Master) within a Behavior‑Driven Development (BDD) environment.
- Lead and support teams (onshore and offshore) in developing Spring Microservices, MongoDB schema and MQL queries, and shell scripts.
- Stay current with emerging AI trends and maintain hands‑on experience with modern AI/ML tools and platforms.
- Evaluate, experiment with, and integrate the latest AI technologies to drive innovation, efficiency, and productivity across the domain.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in application development with strong expertise in Springboot Microservices, RESTful APIs, web services, MongoDB, and AWS /GCP cloud technologies.
- 7+ years of data modeling experience across both relational and NoSQL database platforms.
- 7+ years of experience working with Shell scripting, Kafka/MQ, and the Spring Boot framework.
- 6+ years of experience with full CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub, Maven, Jenkins, and Octopus Deploy.
- 5+ years of data modeling expertise with strong proficiency in JSON and XML.
- 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, and managing Kafka-based solutions.
- 5+ years of experience in Agile development methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (or higher-level AWS certification).
- Experience in the healthcare domain with a strong background in managing and delivering complex application ecosystems.
- Knowledge of Individual Member Preferences, Profile Management, Privacy, and Consent Management within a healthcare context.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, cloud computing, DataPower, RSAD, and microservices architectures.
- Hands-on experience building APIs and application frameworks, including expertise in API security, analytics, throttling, caching, logging, and request/response transformations.
- Proven mastery of software engineering best practices and experience building complex enterprise-grade products.
- Demonstrated success in driving adoption of engineering standards, tooling, and best practices across teams.
- Strong proficiency in application, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines.
- Awareness of industry-wide technology trends, emerging patterns, and modern engineering practices.
- Self-starter with a strong work ethic and the ability to stay highly productive in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills for effective collaboration with team members, stakeholders, and leadership.

Education
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$106,605.00 - $213,210.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
