Position Summary

Our Deloitte Strategy & Transactions team helps guide clients through their most critical moments and transformational initiatives. From strategy to execution, this team delivers integrated, end-to-end support and advisory services covering valuation modeling, cost optimization, restructuring, government operations modernization, business design and transformation, infrastructure and real estate, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and sustainability. Work alongside clients every step of the way, helping them navigate new challenges, avoid financial pitfalls, and provide practical solutions at every stage of their journey—before, during, and after any major transformational projects or transactions.

Work You’ll Do

We are seeking a highly experienced Government Sector Research and Development (R&D) Team Consultant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a profound understanding of working with government research facilities, with a strong background in R&D, focused on fossil fuels. This role requires a strategic thinker with an eye for innovation/R&D, with the ability to lead teams, mentor junior staff, and provide insightful briefings to senior leaders on key energy and fossil fuels issues.

Our Sustainability, Infrastructure, Real Estate, & Resilience offering advises clients on climate and disaster-related risks through comprehensive strategy, planning, and crisis management, while also providing expertise in capital investments, infrastructure projects, and real estate portfolio optimization.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, industrial engineering, critical minerals, or other relevant engineering or science field; Master’s degree preferred.

• 5+ years of experience working with on matters related to the energy ecosystem including issues relevant to the fossil fuels and/or critical minerals industry.

• Experience with research and development programs.

• Familiar working with large, complex, datasets, conducting research, and performing high-level analysis.

• Experience working with experience working with government research facilities.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future

• Must be able to obtain and maintain the required clearance for this role

• Ability to travel up to 25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve

Preferred:

• Demonstrated ability to succinctly and cogently brief senior leaders on key energy, fossil fuel, and critical mineral issues across the value chain in writing and verbally.

• Comfortable working on a team, communicating clients, preparing technical deliverables, and working efficiently.

• Experience collaborating with junior staff to undertake analysis and take part in research and operations activities.

• Experience publishing in technical journals, working on academic research, and exposure to research and development processes (R&D).
