Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at Enterprise Square, Edmonton.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Portfolio Manager, Public Markets & Reporting, the Investment Analyst, Public Markets and Reporting, is responsible for providing the University of Alberta with professional oversight and effective coordination of its investments, including the strategic management of the university's financial assets.

The focus will be on the University Endowment Pool (UEP) with primary support for public market investments, including equities, hedge funds, and fixed income, as well as periodic assistance for the public market investments within the Non-Endowed Investment Pool (NEIP).

The Investments & Treasury team strives to preserve and enhance the financial assets of the University of Alberta and invests across global markets.

Finance, Procurement and Planning is responsible for financial reporting, resource planning, procurement, investments & treasury, and risk management & insurance. We have a team of service partners who work closely with the faculties, units and staff across the institution to provide excellent client service.
  • Requires a relevant undergraduate degree supplemented by post-graduate and/or professional certification (i.e. CFA, CAIA, MBA, or CPA) and a minimum of two years of related experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of mathematical finance, statistics, fundamental micro and macro-economic concepts, and corporate financial analysis.
  • A solid comprehension of capital markets, hedge fund strategies, performance measurement, risk measurement and management, portfolio management, financial modelling, and sensitivity analysis.
  • Strong research and analytical skills necessary to analyze portfolios, recommend strategic and investment policy changes, and manager selection.
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Bloomberg and/or other portfolio management tools.

About Investments & Treasury

Investments & Treasury is a dynamic team of eight individuals who work in a highly collaborative, innovative and professional environment.

The Investments & Treasury team is responsible for providing the University of Alberta with strategic leadership and oversight of cash flow, banking services and an investment portfolio of approximately $4 billion.

This position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $74,383 to $123,965. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

The terms and conditions of this appointment are governed by Schedule F of the collective agreement between the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta and the Association of Academic Staff of the University of Alberta.


  • Assist the Portfolio Manager, including providing support for the implementation and monitoring of both internally and externally managed public market investments covering a variety of asset classes and strategies.
  • Coordination of UEP trading and rebalancing activity, which is carried out within the framework of the University's Statement of Investment Principles and Beliefs and the University Funds Investment Policy.
  • Perform investment research, portfolio design, and risk management.
  • Actively participate in the development of all policy documents.
