Job Title:

Sr. Data Engineer / System Admin for Aveva PI

Meet the team:

Our Global Shop Floor Systems group is an enterprise team that develops and applies our digital strategy to Dexcom’s manufacturing operations. We work with leading edge hardware and software technologies to seamlessly integrate our shop floor systems within the organization to enable optimal operational and business performance.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting Aveva PI and other solutions which support industrial operations to collect, cleanse, store, enrich and visualize real-time operations data across the enterprise.

Where you come in:

  • You will provide Aveva PI services: administration, development, testing, validation and support of all aspects of the data historian, Aveva PI, including interfaces to automated equipment, control systems, other databases and software.
  • You will design and interface additional data sources with Aveva PI.
  • You will lead data historian projects and internal/external resources, develop and manage project schedules and report and resolve project issues.
  • You will design, develop and implement queries and stored procedures.
  • You will also provide support and system administrator to some SQL databases.
  • You will provide some administrative support, development, testing and Validation for the system IBM Maximo.
  • You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Operations, Quality Assurance, Contract Manufacturers, and other stakeholders to define requirements, compliance documentation, test plans, test records, release implementation, facilitate data access in terms of reporting.
  • You will maintain source code for Aveva PI and database projects, develop visualizations and graphical objects with Java Scripts, ensuring that projects are build successfully in a continuous integration environment.
  • You will troubleshoot and document data historian performance or availability issues, data quality issues in an FDA-compliant manner.
  • You will facilitate training for users to develop their own reports.
  • You will create, maintain, and enforce internal development processes that align with industry best-practices and medical regulations alike.
  • Other duties as assigned, incl. but not limited to providing periodic 24/7 remote phone support for the systems.

What makes you successful:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience or Master’s degree and 2-5 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 0-2 years’ experience.
  • You have experience in Aveva PI system administration and content development.
  • You have working knowledge of of computer systems validation.
  • You have experience in reporting and query tools and practice using SQL Server 2012+ or Oracle databases.
  • You have experience in Java scripts and angular.
  • You have experience with IBM Maximo (or other Asset Management solutions e.g. Blue Mountain RAM).
  • You have a hands-on demeanor can able to investigate and troubleshoot database / application issues.
  • You have experience creating and/or reviewing design specifications, drawings, and other project documents such as URS, FRS, SDS, etc.
  • You have working knowledge with data management and data processing flowcharting techniques, and other tools, such as Jira and confluence.
  • Your familiarity with equipment automation and discrete manufacturing is preferred, in particular PLCs, HMIs and OPCs.

Travel Required:

  • 20% initially, reducing to 10% in 2026
