About your role:

As a Systems Engineer - Sr. Professional for the BillPay Platform, you will ensure the availability, reliability, performance, and security of large-scale, mission-critical digital payment systems. You will collaborate closely with application development, site reliability engineering, security, and operations teams to support high-volume Bill Payment services. You will lead complex technical initiatives that help our clients deliver secure, compliant, and resilient payment experiences.

What you'll do:

  • Design, implement, and support enterprise-scale BillPay systems that process high-volume, mission-critical financial transactions in a regulated environment.
  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and resolution of complex production incidents and problems to maintain system reliability and availability.
  • Monitor and analyze system health and performance metrics, and develop automated monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
  • Build, configure, and maintain infrastructure and middleware components, including Windows/Linux servers, application servers, IIS, databases, APIs, and supporting services required for BillPay operations.
  • Collaborate with application development, quality assurance, security, and operations teams to support software releases, deployments, environment standardization, and production readiness activities.
  • Implement and maintain system security controls, including certificate management and compliance with internal security, audit, and regulatory requirements related to sensitive financial data.
  • Participate in capacity planning, performance optimization, and lifecycle management to ensure scalability and long-term sustainability of BillPay platforms.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior and mid-level engineers, contributing to best practices, operational standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Experience you'll need to have:

  • 4+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, or application operations supporting large-scale, high-availability software platforms.
  • 4+ years of experience supporting mission-critical systems, including incident management, advanced troubleshooting, and production support in a regulated or highly controlled environment.
  • 3+ years of experience working with Windows and/or Linux servers, middleware technologies (such as IIS or equivalent), databases, and enterprise application stacks.
  • Experience with system monitoring, observability, automation, and performance optimization using enterprise tools and scripts (for example, PowerShell, Python, or similar technologies).
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (such as Microsoft Azure or equivalent), networking concepts, load balancing, and secure system design.
  • 1+ years of Fiserv systems experience.

Experience that would be great to have:

  • Experience supporting digital payment or financial services platforms, including high-volume transaction processing systems.
  • Experience working within formal change, release, and incident management processes aligned to IT service management practices.
  • Experience with security, audit, and regulatory compliance controls related to financial data protection.
  • Experience implementing or supporting infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, or continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, related experience and/or military experience.
