What We Do
At Goldman Sachs, our engineers solve the most challenging and pressing engineering problems in financial services via collaboration and innovation. We build parallel systems, analyze oceans of data, architect and implement scalable and reliable infrastructure, proactively guard against cyber threats, and continuously deliver technology solutions to connect people and capital for a better economy
Engineering is at the critical center of our business, and our dynamic environment requires innovative strategic thinking and immediate, real solutions. Want to push the limits and expand technology possibilities? Start here.
Who We Are
Core Engineering provides global thought leadership, solution development, delivery and support for a broad suite of technology products and services at Goldman Sachs. It leverages global expertise to develop leading-edge technology solutions that meet business demands and differentiate the firm’s technology offerings in the marketplace. Core Engineering enables the operation of the firm by managing an extensive compute platform and global communication networks, while addressing technology, compliance and reputational risk and resilience.
The Cloud Platform team within Core Engineering is responsible for enabling the use of public cloud services across the firm. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team researching, architecting and building a cutting-edge platform that enables Goldman Sachs teams to deploy and manage services in public cloud safely and securely. We are modernizing our services around cloud native principles, and you will directly contribute to a platform that programmatically enforces safety, security and compliance while enabling engineers to innovate faster and scale effectively.
Role Summary
As a Vice President in Cloud Platform FinOps Engineering (Bengaluru), you will own the technical direction and delivery outcomes of our public cloud cost management and optimization capabilities across the firm. You will build and evolve the FinOps engineering stack end-to-end, including data foundations, allocation and attribution, forecasting, anomaly detection, policy-as-code guardrails, and automation workflows that help engineering teams operate cloud services efficiently and responsibly.
You will also integrate AI-enabled capabilities into the FinOps stack, including machine learning driven forecasting and anomaly detection, automated cost driver attribution, and AI-assisted insights that improve the speed and quality of engineering and finance decision-making
This is a hands-on engineering role requiring deep software engineering expertise, strong cloud economics knowledge, and the ability to influence standards and adoption across a large enterprise. You will partner closely with Engineering, Finance, Procurement, Risk and Security to improve unit economics, strengthen controls, and increase transparency of cloud spend.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering and Architecture
- Design, develop and operate firmwide FinOps services for public cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure), including cost allocation, showback/chargeback enablement, budgets, alerts, and optimization automation.
- Define and evolve the reference architecture and technical standards for cost management instrumentation (tagging schemas, account/project structures, allocation rules, telemetry) to improve accuracy and auditability.
- Build scalable services and data pipelines that transform billing, usage and telemetry into trusted, decision-grade datasets and APIs (near-real-time where required).
- Drive the engineering roadmap for FinOps capabilities: identify high-impact opportunities, write technical specifications, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver secure, resilient solutions.
- Implement proactive controls and guardrails using automation and policy-as-code approaches to reduce waste and prevent cost regressions.
- Engineer AI-ready FinOps data products, including feature-grade datasets for cost forecasting, anomaly detection, and recommendation systems, with strong lineage and governance.
- Build AI-assisted developer experiences (for example, self-service cost Q and A, automated report narratives, and recommendation explanations) with appropriate access controls and auditability.
FinOps Practice Enablement and Business Outcomes
- Partner with Finance and engineering teams to establish and enforce cloud cost management policies, best practices and measurable outcomes (for example allocation coverage, forecast accuracy, savings realization).
- Monitor and analyze cloud usage and spend to identify cost-saving opportunities, including rightsizing, commitment programs, storage lifecycle, scheduling, and architectural optimizations.
- Develop and implement FinOps tactics that improve financial accountability, including cost ownership models and standardized reporting across business units.
- Establish robust mechanisms for forecasting, variance explanation, and anomaly detection to support timely decision-making and operational governance.
Stakeholder Alignment and Industry Engagement
- Drive design reviews and dependency alignment across multiple engineering teams and stakeholders; ensure solutions meet security, compliance, resiliency and operational requirements.
- Partner with cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and internal vendor management to shape capabilities relevant to regulated financial services and enterprise scale.
- Contribute to an engineering culture focused on operational excellence, automation, reliability, and measurable business impact.
How You Will Fulfill Your Potential
- Deliver high-quality software that improves cloud efficiency at scale, balancing speed, safety, and governance.
- Influence adoption through strong technical credibility: patterns, templates, APIs, documentation, and self-service experiences.
- Translate complex cloud billing and usage signals into actionable insights and automated controls.
- Raise engineering standards for maintainability, observability, and resilience of FinOps services.
Basic Qualifications
- Strong technical ability and demonstrated progression in delivering complex software systems in enterprise environments.
- Programming expertise in Python, Java, Go, or JavaScript.
- Expertise with Linux, containers, system security, and automation with scripting languages.
- Proven ability to drive initiatives across teams through technical influence, clear communication, and strong execution.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical design writing and stakeholder-facing documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Knowledge and experience with software development lifecycle and infrastructure-as-code tooling, such as CloudFormation, Terraform, CDK, or Kubernetes.
- Deep knowledge of cloud provider billing models and concepts, including pricing models, billing exports, cost allocation, budgets, and cost management services.
- Experience building data products for cost analytics (for example pipelines, metrics layers, semantic models) and visualization tooling to communicate outcomes.
- Familiarity with software artifact and container image lifecycle management and governance.
- Understanding of RESTful API design best practices and experience developing and operating them.
- Experience with FinOps practices such as allocation, unit economics, commitment management, and continuous optimization cycles.
