About the job

At Google, our philosophy is build it, break it and then rebuild it better. That thinking is at the core of how we approach testing at Google. Unlike roles with similar names at the other companies, Test Engineers at Google aren't manual testers -- you write scripts to automate testing and create tools so developers can test their own code. As a Test Engineer, you navigate Google's massive codebase, identify weak spots and constantly design better and creative ways to break software and identify potential problems. You'll have a huge impact on the quality of Google's growing suite of products and services.

As part of this organization, the Pixel Test Engineering(PTE) Wi-Fi/Networking Team is tasked with producing, monitoring, and maintaining quality signals in functional and non-functional domains of Wi-Fi/networking tests for all Pixel products (Pixel Phones, Foldables, Tablets and Wearables), including technologies (e.g., Wi-Fi7 and beyond), protocol stacks, system integration and automation solutions. The team has expanded into cross-teams and cross-regions companion testing with other connectivity teams and System Test Teams, such as Bluetooth and Thermals/Powers test teams.

The PTE Wi-Fi/Networking Team in Pixel Test Engineering organization is responsible for designing and developing test strategies, test plans, test cases, test automation, infrastructure (physical testbed), and processes in our test domains, to enable consistent, reproducible test results to serve as quality signals for product teams to evaluate and ready the products for release.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of engineers to develop test strategies, test automation, and positively impact product quality.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Build partnerships with stakeholders and vendors to develop tests for next generation Pixel products and the features (e.g., Wi-Fi 7 and beyond).
  • Deliver consistent test metrics and quality signals to present a comprehensive product quality signal to stakeholders and leadership teams.
  • Identify, prototype, and lead efforts to improve test process, propose new quality metrics, and optimizations of test automation, including leveraging Machine Learning and AI capabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design a holistic test plan covering power, thermal performance and wireless coexistence, and drive the implementations.
