About the job

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

Platforms Engineering research, designs and develops the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's infrastructure and services. We constantly work on solutions not only to deliver the next generation compute, storage, ML, and networking products for the Google worldwide data centers, but also to counter the implications of Moore’s Law. Within the Platforms organization, the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) Software team’s mission is to build server management solutions including root-of-trust, server network initialization, server configuration and management. We also maintain the systems deployed in the data centers with reliability monitoring services, firmware and driver upgrades and thermal control.

In this role, you will get a chance to impact the future server management technology and work with open-source server management communities, openBMC, DMTF, Yocto.

Responsibilities

  • Take autonomous ownership of well-defined BMC components and drive the technical strategy and roadmap for their evolution.
  • Lead image qualification and long-term upgrade compatibility testing for all released BMC firmware images. Oversee the validation of kernel drivers for key hardware interfaces, such as I2C and PCIe, ensuring system-level stability.
  • Drive the BMC manufacturing testing strategy to ensure high-quality production standards and efficient factory throughput. Direct comprehensive hardware testing efforts across platforms, including x86 and ARM servers, as well as storage solutions.
  • Lead vendor partners to achieve high code quality and adherence to industry standards while integrating open-source software and server management solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and author detailed technical specifications for firmware architecture and system health monitoring.
