Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
- 5 years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or a PhD degree.
- Experience with statistical data analysis and experimental design.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience in product data science on an early stage growth product.
- Experience in strategic analysis, experimentation, and metrics design.

Data Scientists provide quantitative support, market understanding and a strategic perspective to our partners throughout the organization. As a data-loving member of the team, you serve as an analytics expert for your partners, using numbers to help them make better decisions. You will weave stories with meaningful insight from data. You'll make critical recommendations for your fellow Googlers in Engineering and Product Management. You relish tallying up the numbers one minute and communicating your findings to a team leader the next.
As a Data Scientist supporting the Commerce organization, you will evaluate and improve Google's Shopping products. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of Engineers and Product Managers on a wide range of problems. You will bring problem-solving excellence and statistical methods to the challenges of measuring quality, improving consumer products, and understanding the behavior of our end-users, merchants, and partners. You will develop, organize and launch experiments and projects that across engineering, product management, sales, and marketing.
Responsibilities
- Work with large, complex data sets. Conduct analysis that includes data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, ongoing deliverables and presentations.
- Build and prototype analysis pipelines iteratively to provide insights at scale. Develop understanding of Google data structures and metrics, advocating for changes where needed for both product development and sales activity.
- Interact cross-functionally with leaders and teams, and work closely with engineers and product managers to identify opportunities for design and to assess improvements for Google products.
- Make business recommendations (e.g., cost-benefit, forecasting, experiment analysis) with effective presentation of findings at multiple levels of stakeholders through visual displays of quantitative information.
- Research and develop analysis, forecasting and optimization methods to improve the quality of Google's user facing products (e.g., application areas include ads quality, search quality, end-user behavioral modeling, and live experiments).
