Position Summary | Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) in conjunction with the Indiana University Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center (IUSSCC) is seeking an innovative informatician/statistician to lead pipeline development and analyses of work in our precision genomics program as the Precision Genomics Director of Informatics and Statistics. This position will lead the analyses for translational work focusing on efficacy and toxicity biomarker optimization from data in our real world data set, comprised of patients with advanced cancers who have had next-generation sequencing performed and from well-annotated clinical trials. This position is supported in part by the generous philanthropy from F3+R (https://f3plusr.com/) and the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. F3+R is a local philanthropic organization dedicated to advancing precision medicine for patients with advanced cancers. Vera Bradley, a company based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is a leading designer of women’s handbags and accessories. The company’s co-founders, Barbara Baekgaard and Patricia Miller, began raising money for breast cancer research in 1993, shortly after the death of a friend and colleague. The Vera Bradley Foundation has since committed $37.5 million to IU School of Medicine to advance breast cancer research and treatment in Indiana and around the world. Important collaborative resources: 1. The Vera Bradley Foundation Center for Breast Cancer Research at Indiana University School of Medicine (VBFC) is focused on dramatically improving therapies for some of the most difficult-to-treat types of breast cancer. The VBFC is home to a multi-disciplinary team of more than 30 breast cancer physicians and scientists who are engaged in basic, translational, and clinical research. This position presents a unique opportunity to lead the expanding clinical and research community of the VBFC within an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center. 2. The Hoosier Cancer Research Network (HCRN), is home to over 200 clinical investigators nationwide. The HCRN is an independent clinical trials consortium whose primary focus is on Phase II and III clinical trials. IUSCC serves as the main research base. 4. The Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium (BTCRC) consists of 14 cancer centers, representing the largest collection of NCI-designated Cancer Centers of all athletic conferences in the country. The BTCRC focuses on early phase collaborative clinical trials. 5. The Brown Center for Immunotherapy, which houses six GMP rooms and a Clinimacs Prodigy, a Precision Immunology Laboratory Services (PILS) Core with state of the art flow cytometric, CYTOF, and imaging flow cytometry, a mixed use facility including BSL-3 ISO-7 clean rooms for viral vector production and cell manufacturing of allogeneic cell products 6. The IU School of Medicine’s Precision Health Initiative is a $120 million investment intended to place us at the cutting edge of personalized medicine, biomedical research and healthcare delivery. Triple negative breast cancer is a major pillar of the PHI, including creation of a richly-annotated cohort and development of novel patient-derived xenografts. IUSM is the nation’s largest allopathic medical school with 9 campuses across Indiana. The IUSCCC research physicians and scientists include more than 150 members who lead over 300 clinical trials in pediatric and adult cancers.
