Job Description
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face-to-face, remote, and online. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 9 credit hours in the fall and spring semester and/or up to 6 credit hours during summer session. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
Duties and Tasks
- Teach specific classes in drawing, 2D art, 3D art, and/or graphic design.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to the policies, procedures, and regulations of Indiana University Kokomo.
- Maintain current competence in the discipline or field of specialization.
Essential Functions
The ideal candidates for the above position will have prior teaching or training experience and the appropriate expertise. Candidates should have an earned master’s degree or Ph.D. in Art History or sufficient working history and experience in an appropriate field of Art History.
As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the University expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly, submit required records and reports routinely, teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts, and adhere to the statement on professional ethics by university policies, procedures, and regulations.

Position Summary | The Department of New Media, Art, & Technology (NMAT) at Indiana University Kokomo invites interested and qualified applications to the adjunct instructor pool. Information about the program can be found at https://kokomo.iu.edu/humanities-and-social-sciences/new-media-art-technology/index.html.The successful candidate will teach courses in a number of areas, including but not limited to graphic design, drawing, 2D foundations, and 3D foundations; they will be able to teach in face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats. One of eight campuses of Indiana University, Indiana University Kokomo, is a comprehensive non-residential campus located 50 miles north of Indianapolis in Kokomo, Indiana, a city with a population of about 60,000. Committed to student success, the campus serves approximately 3000 students from a 14-county area in north-central Indiana. IU Kokomo has around 271 full-time faculty and staff.
