Position Summary
Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) invites applications for multiple, tenure-track faculty positions in the field of robotics. This search seeks applicants primarily at the assistant professor rank to serve as a faculty member of Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering and may hold appointments in any of its departments, including Informatics, Computer Science, or Intelligent Systems Engineering. Outstanding applicants at the associate or full professor rank (tenured or untenured) will also be considered. We seek exceptional researchers and educators whose work advances the science and engineering of intelligent, embodied, and human-centered systems. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to the new Bachelor of Science in Robotics degree, shaping the next generation of roboticists through research-driven teaching and mentoring.

We welcome applicants in all areas of robotics. Particular areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
  • Robot Perception and Sensing
  • Control Systems and Mechatronics
  • Robot Learning
  • Human-Robot Collaboration
  • Cognitive Robotics
  • Bio-Robotics
  • Field Robotics

We are especially interested in candidates whose work complements existing strengths in autonomous systems, human-robot interaction, educational robots, multi-robot systems, and cyber-physical systems.

These 10‐month appointments would ideally start August 1, 2026, although an earlier or later start date is negotiable.

Responsibilities: Tenure track faculty at Indiana University Bloomington are expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of their department by developing and/or maintaining a robust research portfolio including pursuing and obtaining major extramural research funding to conduct cutting-edge research both as a corresponding principal investigator and a collaborating investigator; teaching and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students as designated by the department chairperson; and actively providing service within the department, school and university alongside active engagement with the profession and/or the community.

These positions are located on the campus of Indiana University, Bloomington (IUB) in Bloomington, Indiana, and successful candidates are expected to work on the IUB campus to allow full engagement with the department, school, campus, and community. Indiana University bases its tenure and promotion recommendations upon performance in the three areas of research, teaching, and service. All individuals hired through this initiative are expected to excel in research and provide strong performance in teaching and service.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in robotics, computer science, engineering, or a related field from an accredited educational institution, and demonstrate (or evidence of) excellence in research, teaching, and service.
