Position Summary
Dr. Chandy John, Distinguished Professor, Ryan White Professor of Pediatrics, Professor of Medicine, Professor of Microbiology & Immunology, Adjunct Professor, School of Public Health is currently seeking applications from highly motivated, team-oriented candidates for a research scientist. The full-time position is in the division of Pediatrics Infectious Disease Research.

The Assistant Research Professor contributes to the research mission of the unit by leading and collaborating on studies focused on infectious diseases and global child health. The position provides expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, and data science to support the design, implementation, and analysis of clinical and population-based research. Responsibilities include leading statistical analyses, developing and managing complex research datasets, and contributing to study design and methodological approaches across ongoing projects. The mission of the Pediatrics Infectious Disease Research lab is to improve understanding, prevention, and treatment of severe infectious diseases affecting children, particularly malaria and related conditions in low-resource settings. The unit conducts multidisciplinary research integrating clinical epidemiology, biomarker discovery, and advanced data analysis to investigate disease mechanisms, identify predictors of severe outcomes, and evaluate interventions to improve survival and long-term health. Current research includes prospective cohort studies, clinical trials, and large-scale observational analyses examining complications of severe malaria such as neurological injury, kidney dysfunction, and long-term cognitive impairment. The lab collaborates closely with international research partners and clinical sites, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, to conduct rigorous studies that generate evidence to inform clinical care, public health policy, and global disease control strategies. Through these efforts, the unit seeks to translate research findings into improved outcomes for children affected by infectious diseases worldwide.

IUSM is committed to being a welcoming campus community and we seek candidates whose research, teaching, and community engagement efforts contribute to robust learning and working environments for all students, staff, and faculty. We invite individuals who will join us in our mission to improve health equity and well-being for all throughout the state of Indiana.
