The Department of International Studies at Indiana University’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies invites applications for an assistant professor, tenure-track faculty position in Security Studies beginning August 1, 2027.

We seek a scholar whose research and teaching focus on security studies. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, grand strategy, the causes of war, nonproliferation, and how new technologies may affect international security and geopolitics. Scholars with regional expertise within security studies are welcome to apply, as well.

The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s strengths in international and global studies and a growing focus on security studies across IU-Bloomington. The candidate’s teaching will support existing undergraduate and graduate programs, including the growing Master of International Affairs (MIA) program.

We welcome applications from candidates employing diverse disciplinary and methodological approaches. Candidates should demonstrate a strong research agenda, evidence of or potential for excellence in teaching, and a commitment to interdisciplinary engagement within an international studies environment.

Responsibilities include maintaining an active research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in areas related to global security studies, mentoring students, and contributing to departmental and university service.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in hand by August 1, 2027.

Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, research statement, teaching statement, a writing sample, and the contact information for three references.

Candidates should: hold a PhD in International Studies, Political Science, Political Economy, History, Law, Geography, Sociology, or a related field at the time of appointment; possess a record of scholarly achievement commensurate with rank, and; demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence or strong potential for effective teaching.
