The Network Support Engineer is a senior technical role responsible for the advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of our complex network infrastructure. This individual will serve as an escalation point for critical network incidents, provide expert guidance, and contribute to the design and implementation of network solutions, ensuring high availability, performance, and security of our network services in Essen, Frankfurt DC and across our wider operation.

Your role:

• Act as an Interface to Customer for network specific areas.
• Perform in-depth analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of network issues across LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, and cloud network environments.
• Configure, troubleshoot, and manage advanced routing and switching protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, VRF).
• Configure, troubleshoot and manage Cisco Prime / ISE
• Administer and maintain network security devices such as firewalls (e.g., Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, FortiGate), intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and VPN gateways.
• Configure, manage and troubleshoot DDI (Inflobox).
• Implement and manage network monitoring tools and perform proactive analysis to identify potential issues and optimize performance.
• Participate in network design discussions, capacity planning, and implementation of new network solutions and technologies.
• Conduct root cause analysis for recurring network problems and implement permanent solutions.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
• Collaborate closely with other IT teams (e.g., Systems, Security, Cloud) on cross-functional projects and incidents.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior network support staff.
• Participate in on-call rotation for critical network incidents outside of business hours as required.
• Collaborate with remote team in India for training and other team tasks.

Required:

• 10+ years of experience in network engineering or L3 network support.
• Deep expertise in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco and/or Juniper network devices (routers, switches).
• Strong hands-on experience with advanced routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) and switching technologies (VLANs, Spanning Tree, EtherChannel).
• Proven experience with firewall administration and network security principles.
• Solid understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, etc.) and network services.
• Experience with network monitoring and management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple critical priorities.
