The Data Science team plays a critical role in shaping strategy, scaling new businesses, and delivering delightful customer experiences. Our mission is to accelerate decision-making through advanced models, insights, and experimentation that address our most important customer and business challenges.

We are seeking a Principal Data Science Leader to help define strategy, deliver impactful models and insights, and drive measurable outcomes for the Workforce Solutions segment within QuickBooks.


Responsibilities

  • Develop the strategic vision for data science, defining success criteria, key metrics, and long-term goals to guide leadership decisions.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing, Finance, and Operations to drive product strategy, experimentation, and customer impact and be accountable for revenue outcomes for the business.
  • Build and apply predictive models, customer segmentation frameworks, and advanced experimentation methods (beyond A/B testing) to influence product and GTM strategies.
  • Translate complex modeling outcomes into clear narratives and recommendations for both technical and executive audiences.
  • Establish durable data science–driven processes across the product development lifecycle, from ideation through scaling.
  • Lead strategic learning plans for product and marketing initiatives, including requirements for instrumentation, reporting, and experimentation.
  • Own and prioritize the data science roadmap and backlog, ensuring high-value models and insights are delivered to the business.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop other data scientists, raising the overall craft of the team and guiding their growth through technical reviews, feedback, and career development.
  • Operate with speed and agility in a fast-moving environment, making data-backed decisions that drive measurable outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in data science with proven business impact; experience in Product and Go-To-Market data science highly preferred.
  • Strong technical foundation:

Advanced SQL and experience with large, structured/unstructured datasets.

Proficiency in Python and statistical/machine learning libraries (NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, etc.).

Experience with causal inference (e.g., propensity score matching, diff-in-diff, synthetic control).

Familiarity with Generative AI and agentic solutions to accelerate insights.

  • Expertise in experimentation frameworks (A/B testing and beyond) and building scalable, reusable data science solutions.
  • Experience with BI and visualization tools (Tableau, Qlik, Plotly Dash, etc.).
  • Exceptional storytelling and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated success in boundaryless collaboration across complex orgs, partnering with global stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Passion for mentoring, coaching, and building high-performing data science teams.

Preferred Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in SaaS, fintech, or financial services industries.
  • Proven track record of shaping data science strategy at scale for new or high-growth products.
  • Familiarity with ecosystem dynamics (multi-product attach, cross-sell, customer lifecycle value).
