Company Overview

Intuit is the global financial technology platform that powers prosperity for the people and communities we serve. With approximately 100 million customers worldwide using products such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to prosper. We never stop working to find new, innovative ways to make that possible.

Job Overview

Intuit Mailchimp is a leading marketing platform for small businesses. We empower millions of customers worldwide to build their brands and grow their companies through marketing automation, multichannel campaigns, CRM, and analytics tools.

Our Engineering organization builds and maintains the systems and infrastructure that power

Mailchimp’s global platform. Within it, the Database Engineering team partners closely with SRE, Infrastructure Operations, Networking, and Product Engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-performing data services across the company.

We’re looking for an Operations Engineer II to help maintain, grow, and improve our database infrastructure. You’ll work across multiple database technologies (primarily MySQL, Spanner, CloudSQL, and RDS) spanning thousands of instances, ensuring that our systems are resilient, secure, and efficient. You’ll also play a key role in troubleshooting production issues, automating routine operations, and supporting our ongoing cloud transformation initiatives.

This role requires participation in a shared on-call rotation to support our production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor Mailchimp’s database infrastructure across colocation facilities and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP).
  • Support migrations of databases from on-prem environments to the cloud.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database incidents, performance issues, and capacity challenges.
  • Implement database upgrades, patches, and configuration changes to maintain stability and security.
  • Collaborate with developers and SRE teams to optimize database performance and improve application reliability.
  • Contribute to automation and tooling efforts to reduce manual operational work (using tools like Terraform, RunDeck, or custom scripts).
  • Maintain and improve database availability, scalability, and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and provide timely response to production incidents.
  • Create and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and internal tooling guides.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience supporting large-scale database infrastructure in production environments.
  • Experience with cloud services such as Amazon RDS, Google CloudSQL, or Spanner.
  • Solid understanding of database administration concepts — replication, clustering, backup/recovery, and HA/DR.
  • Hands-on experience with automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Puppet, RunDeck, or GitHub Actions).
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong scripting skills (Shell, Python, or Golang preferred).
  • Experience troubleshooting performance issues across infrastructure and application layers.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills with a collaborative, problem-solving mindset.
  • A strong sense of ownership, accountability, and desire to improve operational excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating databases at scale in hybrid or multi-cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
  • Experience contributing to infrastructure-as-code or operational automation frameworks.
  • Knowledge of security best practices and compliance in database operations.
