Staff Software Engineer, Fintech API
Company Overview
Intuit is the global financial technology platform that powers prosperity for the people and communities we serve. With approximately 100 million customers worldwide using products such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to prosper. We never stop working to find new, innovative ways to make that possible.
Job Overview
Intuit's Fintech API team is rebuilding the API platform for a world where AI agents, not human developers, are the primary consumers of fintech capabilities. We're moving from hand-written OpenAPI specs and ad-hoc MCP wrappers to a model where every fintech capability is defined once as a Capability Spec, with OpenAPI schemas, Skill manifests, and MCP tools auto-generated and enforced at PR time. This work already powers the QuickBooks Connector on Claude and ChatGPT, with 40+ Fintech tools live in production and early signal from engaged invoicing and Capital loan customers.
We're hiring a Staff Software Engineer to help build the next layer of this platform: the Unified Fintech API, the Capability Spec authoring system, and the agent-readiness tooling that makes every fintech capability safely and reliably invocable by autonomous agents at scale. This is a foundational, cross-team role shaping how Intuit's financial capabilities show up in the agentic era.
Responsibilities
- Architect the Capability Spec framework — the single editable source of truth from which OpenAPI schemas, Skill manifests, MCP tool definitions, and portal docs are auto-generated
- Drive consolidation of fragmented, team-specific API surfaces into the Unified Fintech API, a composable, agent-ready contract
- Build CI/CD enforcement — PR gates, validation rules, drift detection — that blocks hand-edits to generated artifacts and keeps specs, code, and docs in sync
- Build tooling to auto-generate Functional and Integration Skills, MCP tools, and client SDKs directly from Capability Specs
- Set technical direction across the Fintech API and Agent-Ready Enabler teams; mentor engineers and influence architecture and roadmap decisions without relying on direct authority
Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with deep API design and distributed systems experience at scale
- Demonstrated Staff-level (or equivalent) technical leadership: driving cross-team architecture decisions and setting technical direction across multiple teams
- Strong background in API platforms — OpenAPI/REST design, schema-driven codegen, API lifecycle and developer portal tooling
- Hands-on experience with AI agent tooling — MCP (Model Context Protocol), LLM tool/function calling, or agentic developer platforms (Claude, ChatGPT Actions)
- Experience building CI/CD systems, codegen pipelines, or platform tooling that enforces contracts at scale
- Familiarity with fintech domains (payments, lending, payroll, wallet) and the safety/compliance requirements of agent-initiated financial actions is a strong plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to build alignment across engineering, product, and compliance stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
