Fintech Futures - Staff Software Engineer

Category Software Engineering Location Mountain View, California Job ID 23004

Company Overview

Intuit is the global financial technology platform that powers prosperity for the people and communities we serve. With approximately 100 million customers worldwide using products such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to prosper. We never stop working to find new, innovative ways to make that possible.

Job Overview

Money is being rewritten to run on AI agents - systems that initiate, authorize, and settle transactions with no human in the loop. The protocols that will govern that shift are being authored right now, by a small number of companies, in real time. Fintech Futures is where Intuit shows up to that table: an engineering team defining and validating the next generation of fintech integration protocols - spanning agentic payment settlement, edge AI and on-device financial intelligence, and verifiable financial trust.

This is not a proof-of-concept shop. Every solution is built against production-grade architecture, run on real Intuit data and real rails, and judged on the qualities that separate a real system from a demo: scalability under real transaction volume, security and compliance posture that can survive external review, reliability and observability once it's live, and maintainability so what graduates doesn't collapse the moment someone other than its author has to extend it. Velocity matters, because the window to shape these standards is measured in weeks and months, not years, but speed here means proving things fast and well, not proving them fast and forgettably.

Intuit holds a verified, cross-asset financial graph no payments company in the world can replicate. The capabilities this team builds - agent-initiated settlement, edge AI-driven financial agents running locally on-device, and portable verifiable trust - are how that asset becomes something agents can actually call on.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Own the technical vision for a major capability area - whether that's agent-initiated settlement, edge AI-driven on-device financial agents, or portable verifiable trust - architected to hold up as the underlying standards continue to converge.
  • Lead technical design that positions Intuit's engineering work as a credible input to the industry conversation, not just an internal build.
  • Anticipate cross-system risk that spans dependencies across the portfolio, where one capability becomes the foundation others are built on.
  • Act as the connective tissue between engineering and domain/compliance stakeholders, turning technical proof points into the case for what should scale into a real product.
  • Champion strategic investment in a specific frontier technology, shaping how the broader team and Intuit's standing in the industry evolve.

Qualifications

Must Haves

  • 8+ years of experience developing software for large-scale business environments, with 5+ years designing complex distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a complex technical domain end-to-end, with a track record of setting direction others build against.
  • Ability to resolve deep technical and organizational ambiguity - this team defines problems the industry hasn't fully specified yet.
  • Proven fluency in agent-driven development: architecting for agentic observability and reliable autonomous code navigation and modification.
  • Strong cross-functional partnership skills, working daily with domain and compliance stakeholders to move work from proof point to product path.
  • Deep expertise in a frontier fintech infrastructure area - payments/settlement, edge AI, or identity/trust systems - with the versatility to shift focus as the space matures.
  • Fluency across Intuit's standard engineering stack (Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript with React/Node) sufficient to set technical direction and review code across a polyglot team, plus the judgment to bring in new languages or frameworks where a bet genuinely requires it.
  • Fluency operating and making design decisions on Kubernetes-based runtimes (e.g. AWS EKS) - service topology, scaling, and deployment patterns - since prototypes on this team are expected to run on standard cloud-native infrastructure, not bespoke hosting.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

TEAM & LEADERSHIP SKILLS

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; able to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong mentoring skills, with a track record of helping engineers grow technically and navigate ambiguity.
  • Self-starter attitude with the ability to make sound decisions independently and drive alignment across teams.
  • Effective at driving outcomes across cross-functional teams while maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving technical environment where the roadmap itself is still being defined.

Nice to Haves

  • Prior involvement in an open standards body or protocol working group.
  • Experience taking new technical capability through compliance/legal review to a beta or sandbox release.
  • Hands-on edge AI/on-device deployment experience (model compression, on-device inference pipelines, wearable integration)
