Fintech Futures - Senior Staff Software Engineer
Company Overview
Intuit is the global financial technology platform that powers prosperity for the people and communities we serve. With approximately 100 million customers worldwide using products such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to prosper. We never stop working to find new, innovative ways to make that possible.
Job Overview
Money is being rewritten to run on AI agents - systems that initiate, authorize, and settle transactions with no human in the loop. The protocols that will govern that shift are being authored right now, by a small number of companies, in real time. Fintech Futures is where Intuit shows up to that table: an engineering team defining and validating the next generation of fintech integration protocols - spanning agentic payment settlement, edge AI and on-device financial intelligence, and verifiable financial trust.
This is not a proof-of-concept shop. Every solution is built against production-grade architecture, run on real Intuit data and real rails, and judged on the qualities that separate a real system from a demo: scalability under real transaction volume, security and compliance posture that can survive external review, reliability and observability once it's live, and maintainability so what graduates doesn't collapse the moment someone other than its author has to extend it. Velocity matters, because the window to shape these standards is measured in weeks and months, not years, but speed here means proving things fast and well, not proving them fast and forgettably.
At Senior Staff, you shape the technical direction of how Intuit participates in - and influences - the platform shift to agentic money. The window to do this is real but finite: once the industry's protocols finalize, they either embed Intuit's verified financial context and edge AI capability as first-class citizens, or they route around them. Your job is ensuring the former.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do
- Identify and resolve cross-cutting technical problems with genuinely unclear definitions - including which emerging standards to commit to and which to stay agnostic across, spanning payment protocols, edge AI, and trust infrastructure.
- Set technical direction across the team's active capability areas, driving architectural evolution as individual efforts mature from validated concept toward shipped product.
- Distinguish foundational decisions that need deliberate, cross-team planning from those suited to fast, reversible experimentation, especially where one capability underpins several others.
- Own strategic viability at every customer-facing deliverable, ensuring what the team produces is defensible against Intuit's competitive position, not just technically impressive.
- Represent the team's technical strategy to SLT, BD, Legal/Compliance, and domain product leadership, translating engineering proof points into the case for organizational investment and standards influence.
- Build an experimentation mindset into how the team validates bets - designing solutions to run behind experiment flags, with clear hypotheses, success metrics, and kill criteria defined before code is written, so a bet's outcome is a measured result, not a subjective call.
Qualifications
Must Haves
- 10+ years of experience developing systems/software for large business environments, with 7+ years designing complex distributed systems or platforms.
- Track record setting technical direction for a sizable organization and driving architectural evolution across highly complex, interdependent efforts.
- Deep fluency with AI-native architecture and agent orchestration at a systems level.
- Judgment distinguishing durable architectural bets from premature optimization, in a portfolio that evolves as the industry does.
- Strong external-facing communication - comfortable making the technical and strategic case to senior non-engineering stakeholders.
- Substantive expertise spanning multiple areas of the agentic money space - payments/settlement, edge AI, and identity/trust - credible enough to make calls across whatever mix of capability areas the team is currently pursuing.
- Working fluency across Intuit's standard engineering stack (Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript) sufficient to set architectural standards for polyglot teams, without needing to be the deepest specialist in any single language.
- Fluency with Kubernetes-based runtime architecture (e.g. AWS EKS) at an organizational level - setting standards for how services across multiple bets are deployed, scaled, and operated.
- Demonstrated experience designing and running structured experiments (A/B, canary, or flagged rollouts) to validate technical bets with evidence rather than intuition, and instilling that discipline in the teams around you.
- BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
TEAM & LEADERSHIP SKILLS
- Excellent communication skills - clear, succinct, and persuasive with employees, customers, and management, including executives.
- Strong mentoring skills, with demonstrated ability to influence and develop both junior and peer-level engineers.
- Self-starter attitude with the ability to make decisions independently in a highly matrixed environment.
- Demonstrated ability to drive results across cross-functional teams while maintaining effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with distributed teams, including across time zones.
Nice to Haves
- Experience actively shaping industry standards, not just consuming them.
- Track record building a technical organization from near-zero headcount.
- Track record spanning both cloud-side agentic infrastructure and edge/on-device AI systems.
