Senior Director / Director, Asia Product Compliance
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President and Asia Head of Distribution and Product Compliance, this individual is responsible for overseeing Manulife’s Product Compliance Program in Asia Segment.
This role is focused on strengthening a holistic Product Compliance program and maturing our Product Compliance capabilities across the segment, with a particular focus on product suitability, fair product deliverables, and positive customer outcomes. The incumbent will work closely with market and regional leaders, and ensure that appropriate compliance controls and processes are in place with respect to new and existing products.
Position Responsibilities:
Support Asia Segment Compliance in effectively overseeing the implementation of Distribution and Product Compliance programs across markets;
Work with market leaders, Chief Compliance Officers, Distribution and Product Compliance teams, and regional functional stakeholders, to ensure processes are established for managing known, new, and emerging distribution and product compliance risks;
Partner with Asia and Global L2 Sales Controls Testing teams to ensure quality assurance in the effective design and implementation of controls;
Lead regional initiatives and set policies to enhance Asia product compliance program, in support of the Manulife Conduct Risk Framework and Implementation Standards. This includes supporting the ongoing development of Product Compliance capabilities across markets;
Conduct Compliance Reviews and Deep Dives to address product-specific topicalities, existing and emerging risks, such as product concentration, foreign exchange risk, premium-financing, product-related compensations;
Represent Asia Segment Compliance to support an effective regional product approval process. This involves ensuring appropriate compliance participation in local product development process, meeting regulatory compliance requirements, conducting comprehensive assessments of product suitability and target markets, ensuring sufficient compliance-related product training, and monitoring product experiences and customer outcomes.
Actively engage in relevant governance committee meetings, such as the Asia Distribution & Sales Risk Committee and the Regional Compensation Steering Committee, to review market initiatives, offer functional opinion, and address distribution and product risks; and
Support Asia Segment Compliance in coordination with Global Compliance to ensure timely reporting, collaboration, response to inquiries, and escalation as required.
Required Qualifications:
At least 8 years of progressive experience in financial services, including roles in compliance, risk management, and control functions. Direct experience in insurance distribution, actuarial, and product management is an advantage.
Experience in overseeing product compliance program and strong knowledge of regulatory product compliance would be a definitive advantage.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to write clear and concise reports and effectively convey strategies.
Outstanding functional leadership and people management abilities to positively influence senior leaders and colleagues.
Good judgment by balancing pragmatism with high standards for compliance and ethical conduct, and effectively communicate concerns, escalate issues, and manage challenging conversations.
University educated; professional qualification and designation in product, compliance, risk management are preferred.
