Job Description:
We’re looking for an Analyst to join our Commercial Mortgages Surveillance team at MBPS. In this role, you are expected to monitor the compliance of our mortgage loan borrowers with their reporting covenants and ensure that financial documents are readily available to review, analyze, monitor, and evaluate annual ratings.
Responsibilities:
1. Collection of Operating Statement and Rent Roll
- Role is responsible for preparing updated borrower contact lists, generating annual financial statement and rent roll request letters, and sending these letters to borrowers via email and RightFax. This role also involves timely follow-up on loans that are still missing these documents after a certain period, before sending a list to Toronto for call-outs.
2. Processing of Operating Statement and Rent Roll
- In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing annual operating statements, budgets, rent rolls, and borrower financial statements to gain a comprehensive understanding of each property's financial health. You will need to consider the specific property type to ensure accurate financial evaluations. Part of your duties includes coding cash flow details and rent roll information into TreppPort, a platform used for commercial mortgage-backed securities analytics. Additionally, you will report any termination or lease cancellation fees and instances of high vacancy to the collateral surveillance team. This ensures that significant financial events and potential risks are effectively communicated and managed.
3. Underwriting
- In this role, you will be responsible for processing all assigned loans by conducting a detailed analysis of the borrower's cash flow and rent roll. Your goal is to determine whether there are any changes in the loan rating. This involves assessing financial data to ensure the borrower's financial position remains stable and does not warrant a revision of the loan's risk assessment.
4. Site Inspection
- In this role, you will review site inspection documents submitted for U.S. loans, ensuring all relevant information is accurately inputted and accompanying pictures are uploaded into TreppPort. Additionally, you will be responsible for identifying and reporting any red flags that may arise from these inspections. If necessary, you will also create deferred maintenance letters to address any issues or concerns regarding property upkeep that could impact the loan's risk profile.
5. Administrative Task
- Managing Daily Workload: Oversee and organize the daily workflow by identifying priority loans and requests. Distribute tasks effectively among administrators, manage the team mailbox, and respond to general inquiries promptly.
- Tracking and Recording Financial Documents: Monitor and record borrower financial statements, property operating statements, guarantor financials, and rent rolls received from borrowers. Employ standard document naming conventions, rename submitted information as necessary, and upload documents to the SharePoint site.
- Document Review and Completeness Check: Perform thorough reviews of received documents to ensure completeness and readiness for coding. This involves dissecting and verifying the accuracy and sufficiency of the information provided.
- Communication with Borrowers/Correspondents: Reach out to borrowers or correspondents for clarifications or to request missing information, ensuring all necessary data is available for analysis.
- Updating the Master Sheet: Update the master sheet on a daily basis by generating Excel reports from TreppPort. Transfer significant data from these reports to the master sheet to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
6. Special Projects / Management Task
- Involves handling special projects and management tasks that may arise periodically, requiring strong process knowledge, analytical skills, and organizational abilities. The Senior Analyst will be responsible for managing projects aimed at achieving effective and efficient process improvements for the team. This includes overseeing new tasks, training oversight, and the review of process documentation.
- Actively participating in the successful execution of change management initiatives.
- Supporting and delivering key transformation strategies for the team.
- Driving the sharing of ideas and fostering collaboration and innovation across teams within the organization.
- Effectively communicating significant production updates and challenges to management and the business unit in a timely manner.
- Leading the team in achieving its organizational goals and objectives.
- Serving as the Point of Contact (POC) for day-to-day operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in real estate finance, credit analysis, or a mortgage environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in assessing credit risk and analyzing complex financial statements, budgets, and cash flows, with a strategic approach to risk management.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with database applications.
- Proficiency in Macro and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in using Power BI, Power Automate, and SharePoint for data-driven decision-making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to various stakeholders effectively.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple strategic projects/tasks simultaneously.
Competencies:
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills, ensuring precision in risk assessments and financial analyses.
- Proven leadership and team management abilities, with a track record of mentoring and developing junior analysts.
- Strategic thinking skills with the ability to foresee potential risks and develop proactive mitigation strategies.
- Excellent relationship management skills, capable of building and maintaining strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems strategically, implementing innovative solutions that align with business objectives.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, with experience leading initiatives that enhance the quality and efficiency of credit risk processes.
- Comprehensive job knowledge with an ability to apply insights to influence business strategy and outcomes.
