Product Risk and Control Lead

The Product Risk and Control Lead is responsible for identifying and managing risks throughout the product lifecycle. This includes making sure the right controls are in place to reduce operational, financial, compliance, and strategic risks.
In this role, you’ll work closely with teams across the company to build strong risk processes, ensure our products meet regulations, and support safe innovation. You’ll help the business grow while keeping risks under control.
Position Responsibilities:
- Adopt a hands-on approach to understand, socialize, and manage integration of risk and controls framework within the Product Delivery and Pricing teams.
- Help to identify risk areas and work collaboratively with process owners to find appropriate mitigations.
- Drive the deployment of Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) on control design and operating effectiveness.
- On ad-hoc basis, conduct control testing activities to validate the self-assessment.
- Report and monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) related to Product Management risk, develop action plan and glidepath for any amber/red risks.
- Report operational losses / incidents that originated from the Product launch / deployment stage, liaise with Operations and IT to conduct a thorough root cause analysis with its action plans to prevent the incident from repeating.
- Drive preparation before key process audits, assist during the audit process, and drive the activities in reporting stage (review audit report, corrective action plans)
- Drive preparation of Risk Monitoring Committee materials for Product and Pricing Ensure corrective action plans resulting from audits or other risk management activities are followed through timely.
- Take initiative to provide suggestions for process improvements that align with best risk management practices.
- Conduct periodic reviews of all process flows in product delivery and pricing to ensure that they remain aligned with Manulife company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Own, update, and socialize Product Delivery SOP. Drive risk and controls awareness of the team, including conducting training and communication to help team members understand the risk and responsibility in preventing adverse events.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum Bachelors Degree in Financial, Business, or related field of study
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in Product, Risk, IT, Operations, or related functions in Life Insurance industry. Prior product development experience in Life Insurance industry is a must.
- Demonstrated risk awareness and critical thinking ability to optimize processes for efficiency and effectiveness
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong negotiating and influencing skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues across the organization
- Ability to make sound decisions in complex situations to achieve a balance across various factors
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent organization skills to manage multiple intiaitves and responsibilities in parallel
- Self – driven to proactively identify what needs to be addresses and prioritized to best achieve objectives of their role
- Ability to build and manage relationships with the key internal stakeholders
