Senior Financial Analyst

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex financial accounting and reporting activities for impaired securities across multiple accounting bases, directly contributing to the accuracy and integrity of Manulife’s global investment results. As a Senior Financial Accounting Analyst, you will play a critical role in ensuring high‑quality financial data, supporting strategic decision‑making, and strengthening controls within our Finance Function. You’ll gain deep exposure to Canadian GAAP, US GAAP, and US STAT reporting while collaborating with diverse teams across global financial centers, helping accelerate your professional growth in a dynamic, multinational environment.
Position Responsibilities:
- Ensure complete, accurate, and timely accounting and reporting for impaired securities under Canadian GAAP, US GAAP, and STAT (NAIC).
- Prepare impairment‑related inputs, reconciliations, summary provisions, watchlist reports, and trading loss reports in alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Perform end‑to‑end reconciliations between AABOR, Lawson, and other data sources, investigating and resolving variances with global Securities Operations teams in Toronto and Boston.
- Recommend and process accounting adjustments, support month‑end and quarter‑end close activities and raise complex impairment issues for management review.
- Maintain detailed records of all impaired securities and support projects, system enhancements, and process re‑engineering to drive efficiency and control improvements.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in Investments or Securities Accounting
- Proven experience in accounting and reporting under Canadian GAAP, US GAAP, and/or US STAT
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business field
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with investment accounting systems (e.g., AABOR or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills and ability to learn new applications quickly
- Enrollment in or completion of a professional designation (e.g., CPA, CGA, CMA, CFA) or equivalent relevant work experience
- Strong understanding of impairment accounting and securities valuation concepts
- Experience collaborating with cross‑functional and global teams
- Demonstrated initiative, organizational agility, and ability to manage tight deadlines
