Job Description

Description

Do you have experience investigating and solving complex issues, and conveying analysis to a variety of audiences?

Are you interested in applying your skills to critical problems supporting submarine security?

If so, we 're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking an operations analyst to provide technical contributions and leadership to support continued American undersea superiority. We are a hardworking team of analysts and operators who apply the latest technology to important problems supporting the US Navy Sea Control Mission. Our group strives to cultivate an environment of innovation and collaboration while working on complex technical challenges that contribute to the security of the United States Submarine Force!

As an Operations Analyst for Submarine Warfare...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to analyze and evaluate Concepts of Operations (CONOPs) of Submarine Warfare (SW) and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) platforms and sensors. These technical contributions may include problem definition, requirements and metrics development, system assessment, analysis of mission success, and documentation.
  • You will work with analysis teams and systems authorities to evaluate and assess measures of performance and measures of effectiveness for SW and ASW systems. This will include evaluation of factors such as system performance, logistic requirements, costs, operational impacts, and potential CONOPs, of which the recommendations and conclusions will be detailed in reports and annotated briefs for delivery to Department of Defense (DoD) sponsors.
  • You will interact with DoD and or Navy staff to facilitate task execution, work prioritization, and setting of their strategic vision. This includes briefing the sponsor or DoD command staff on the insights of the work, possible participation in field tests or sea trials, and assessments of courses of action for the joint force at the operational level of warfare.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a Bachelor's degree with ten or more years of relevant SW/ASW operational and technical experience.
  • Are submarine warfare qualified and have served as a high ranking officer on any US submarine.
  • Are technically and analytically oriented, possess curiosity about SW/ASW systems, and are motivated to work on large, exciting portfolios.
  • Have strong analytical, operational, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to lead teams of people.
  • Are willing and able to travel (i.e., occasional 2-3 day trips or week long tests and frequent local trips to sponsor facing sites).
  • Are willing to take on dynamic projects and can prioritize a number of concurrent taskings.
  • Hold an active Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You 'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have a Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research or relevant technical field.
  • Have served as a Commanding Officer on a US submarine.
  • Have served on a US SSBN or on the staff of an operational Navy Task Force or Task Group.
  • Have experience working with the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV) N97.
  • Have demonstrated understanding of features and patterns in data that identify the characteristics and behaviors of systems or components.
  • Have articulated a long-term plan or established a roadmap for the Navy.
  • Have a current Top Secret or higher level security clearance.
  • Have an understanding of potential adversary defensive and offensive capabilities.
