We are seeking a Senior Enterprise Financial Analyst to support APL’s centralized finance team. In this role, you will provide financial modeling, analysis, and reporting that enables APL leadership to achieve strategic goals, identify risks and opportunities, and strengthen operational performance. As a Senior Enterprise Financial Analyst you will...
- Oversee the development, monitoring, and reporting of non-reimbursable budgets, including departmental discretionary funds, fellowships, scholarships, and other unallowable cost items. Track actual expenditures against budgeted amounts throughout the year, identifying variances and trends. Provide strategic recommendations to the CFO on budget adjustments and ongoing maintenance to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with cost allowability.
- Manage and track funding and backlog with a focus on routine monitoring, reporting, and coordinating across teams to ensure financial resources and project commitments are accurate and up-to date. The responsibility includes keeping leadership informed of funding status and backlog health. Also includes special projects and/or analysis relating to funding and backlog.
- Oversee the review and analysis of monthly overhead rates and overhead and non-reimbursable budgets. Includes preparation of a monthly fiscal review that compares actuals to budgets and historical trends, providing insights to management on variances and cost drivers, and ensuring accurate reporting, effective cost control, and transparency in overhead and non-reimbursable spending.
- Serve as a Lab-wide SME for enterprise financial systems and data to include having a comprehensive understanding of ERP/budgeting/reporting tools and quality controls to maintain a single source of accuracy; build reusable queries/datasets/dashboards with documented logic; train and advise stakeholders; translate complex questions into clear, actionable analysis; and partner with IT/data teams on governance, access, automation, and audit-ready, allowability-compliant practices
- Support the calculation and analysis of indirect rates for quarterly reviews and the long-range plan by validating input data from various sectors and departments, conducting trend analyses, and identifying key cost drivers to ensure accurate and compliant rate development.
- Drive the automation and streamlining of financial data processes and reporting, leveraging tools and technology to reduce manual effort, improve data accuracy, and enhance the timeliness and accessibility of financial insights.
- You will perform other duties as assigned, including ad-hoc data requests/presentations, and Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) audit requests.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you…
- Have 5 or more years of financial management/analysis experience
- Possess a BS in Finance, Accounting, or other Business related
- Have experience with researching data anomalies and analyzing financial data
- Demonstrate analytical and modeling skills with problem-solving proficiency at a conceptual level performed in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Are excellent at maintaining accuracy while multitasking, extracting data needs, prioritizing assignments, communicating progress, and meeting deadlines
- Show outstanding attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Are able to collaboratively perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work with all levels of staff
- Demonstrate the ability to be a self-starter and show a high level of initiative
- Have a strong desire to learn and can easily adapt to changing environments
- Are able to demonstrate independent and team based problem solving
- Show a proficiency with business and office applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe – sophisticated Excel knowledge is expected
- Hold US Citizenship or permanent resident status, as required to access APL’s facilities and networks, subject to applicable laws.

- Possess a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance
- Have experience working in an Oracle ERP system environment (i.e., accounting, financial planning and budgeting, project management, etc.) and/or other APL business applications
- Have experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI)
- Have experience in a Department of Defense (DoD) or Government contracting environment

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
