Uses various tools, equipment, and cleaning materials, including but not limited to hand power scrubbing and polishing equipment, small and large vacuum cleaners, large commercial-type buffer, broom, dust brush, dustpan, wet and dry mop, bucket mop wringer, special cleaning solution, and chemical cleaners. Operates designated floor equipment to include auto-scrubbers, burnishers, buffers, carpet extractors to strip, scrub, shampoo, wax floors, all surface cleaners, or other larger mechanical machines at least 3 days per week as a primary duty. Must demonstrate proficiency in operating these machines.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or graduation equivalent preferred.
- One year of experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- High school degree or equivalent preferred; significant related experience/training may substitute.
- One year or more of experience is preferred.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to read and write such as to be able to read labels on cleaning and detergent materials, disinfecting solutions, and so forth.
- Ability to operate large-powered vacuum cleaners, cleaning and buffing equipment.
- Ability to interact and/or work with faculty, students, staff, and visitors in a respectful and courteous manner.
- Ability to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position objects and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, or otherwise move about campus on a continuous basis.
- Ability to ascend/descend stairs on a regular basis in order to sufficiently clean them.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
***This is a Bargaining Unit position. All newly hired employees in Bargaining Unit positions shall be considered “probationary” employees until completion of 90 calendar days of employment. The university will notify the employees’ union. Bargaining Unit employees shall become eligible for benefits upon completion of their probationary period.
