We are seeking a Field Research Assistant who will be responsible for
- Oversee the creation of a GIS map that overlays variables of interest (e.g., infrastructure characteristics, total $ in WIC benefit redemption) for all food stores on the Navajo Nation that accept WIC benefits.
- Assist in the recruitment of qualitative interview participants.
- Contribute to the analysis and interpretation of the qualitative data.
- Coauthor on all reports and manuscripts submitted for publication.
- Assist the Field Research Coordinator in preparing reports for tribal councils.
- Attend weekly research team meetings via Zoom.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a health or technology-related field.
- Evidence of previous work/expertise in GIS mapping.
- Previous experience conducting research and field work in rural reservation settings.
- Understanding of Navajo culture, customs, and language.
- Experience carrying out field work in remote settings with little infrastructure.
- Familiarity of Navajo language and culture.
- Experience recruiting research participants.
- Experience seeking tribal approvals for research.
