Research Assistant

The Addressing Hypertension and Diabetes through Community-Engaged Systems (ANDES) study is seeking a casual Research Assistant to support ongoing environmental and chronic disease research. The Research Assistant will work closely with study investigators and field staff to conduct quantitative analyses and support laboratory procedures related to the study. The position includes both in-person and remote tasks.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct quantitative analyses using RStudio, linking time-synchronized data from ambulatory blood pressure monitors and Ultrasonic Personal Air Sampler (UPAS) devices, and other analyses of exposure and health outcome data.
- Prepare, organize, and clean datasets related to environmental exposures (e.g., PM2.5) and health outcomes.
- Perform laboratory work, including pre- and post-weighing of air filters and quantifying contaminant concentrations.
- Participate in regular meetings with investigators and study coordinators to present findings, discuss analysis strategies, and provide project updates.
- Conduct literature reviews and contribute to the writing of manuscripts.
- Assist with day-to-day operational and logistical tasks to support the smooth implementation of study activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- Proficiency in RStudio and Microsoft Excel for data management and statistical analysis.
- Experience with quantitative statistical methods.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Biostatistics, or a related field.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Experience with air pollution, blood pressure, or chronic disease dataset.
