We are looking for a Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program Clinic Health Educator/Clinical Research Assistant II who will work as a part of a multidisciplinary team to implement the UChoose program, offering designated evidence-based sexual health education programs (EBP) as part of the Title X Program at the Harriet Lane Clinic. This position will also provide family planning and sexual health education with adolescents and young adults in the clinic setting and training of clinical staff about new program initiatives and components. The HLC’s Title X Program provides family planning and sexual and reproductive health care as outlined by Title X national clinical guidelines to clients aged 13-25 who are seeking confidential services or are uninsured or underinsured with the goal to reduce unintended pregnancy among patients served under aged 26.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University conduct clinical trials and clinical studies to discover new ways to prevent and treat diseases and other health problems. The Clinical Research Assistant II will support the research team by implementing steps and processes of a clinical research protocol. The position will perform both administrative tasks related to day-to-day clinical research operations, and protocol-related duties requiring an understanding of research procedures.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collect study data by recruiting and coordinating activities of study participants.
  • Utilize a basic understanding of the clinical study background and rationale to explain. the study to potential and current participants.
  • Assist in developing recruitment strategy for one or more studies.
  • Implement a variety of techniques for recruitment, e.g., print and web based. advertisements, contact referring physicians, participate in community events, etc.
  • Set up tools and procedures for data collection and study processes.
  • Perform data entry and organize data in approved systems.
  • Serve as liaison between study team and IRB for routine administrative matters.
  • Prepare routine reports related to study accrual, study trends, efficiency-related issues.
  • Contact participants to confirm, schedule, and retain.
  • Other duties as assigned.

In addition to the duties described above

  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues and other clinic-based staff
  • Participate in Youth Sexual Health Initiative (YoSHI) Coalition and project’s Core Implementation Team (CIT) meetings, monthly conference calls for Clinical Intervention Partners, and related curriculum trainings
  • Provide developmentally and culturally appropriate one-on-one counseling with youth related to family planning and sexual health & serve as training facilitator to train clinicians and staff about program and its availability on-site.
  • Maintain organized documentation for participant incentives and support participant usage.
  • Complete youth-friendly and supportive services assessments and contribute to ensuring clinical services are youth-friendly and appropriate supportive services (mental health and substance use) are accessible.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • Experience working with youth, counseling on contraception, family planning, pregnancy prevention and related interventions.
