What You Will Do
This position is being filled at either the Engineered Systems Tec 3/4 pending candidate experience per the requirements below.
The Dynamic Structure Design, Engineering, and Vessel Operations Group, J-2 , is seeking a talented welder to join its Vessel Operations Team. Welding operations support the refurbishment of J-Division's confinement vessel systems that are used throughout the DOE Complex in supporting the execution of hydrodynamic tests.
Engineered Systems Tec 3 $64,700-$101,400
In this role, the selected candidate will work towards achieving welding qualifications to be able to assist in weld repair of HSLA-100 confinement vessels. As a Tec 3, the candidat will be responsibe to support other team members in vessel repair and refurbishment processes which require working in confined spaces as well as contamination areas. For such support the candidate will need to complete training in forklift and over head crane operations, and will work towards proficiency in all aspects of the teams operations.This will include requirements to gain inspection experience and CWI certifications to support the overall team efforts as well as our production vessel team with site visits to our fabrication vendors. Candidates will be required to be qualified crane and fork lift operators as well as radiological and beryllium workers.
Engineered Systems Tec 4 $71,200-$112,900
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level selected candidate will work towards gaining inspcection experience and CWI certifications to support the overall teams efforts as well as supporting our production vessel team with potential site visits to our fabrication vendors. At this level, candidates will be expected to work more independent, support light fabrication work for the group and division, and be expected keep formal record keeping, provide input into inspection documentation, and cross train with the inspection team.

Education/Experience at Engineered Systems Tec 4: Position require an Associates' Degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, additional training and/or certification may be expected.
Desired Qualifications:
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

- SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)
- GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding)
- GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding)
- Hands-on experience working with mechanical assemblies and fabrication processes.
- Proficient in interpreting and working from shop drawings and technical schematics.
- Skilled in the safe and effective use of standard shop tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of proper tool handling, identification of operational hazards, and ability to interpret and follow detailed operating procedures.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities.
- Demonstrated capacity to collaborate effectively with personnel across all organizational levels, including customers.
In addition to the requirements of the Engineering Systems Technician Level 3 outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
- Welding certifications or previous certifications in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW
- Experience in NDE methods such as mag particle, liquid penetrants, and visual inspections
- Experience interpreting inspection reports as well as demonstrated experience in proper record keeping, supporting document writing such as instruction procedures, and a basic understanding of Formality of Operations
- Experience in performing complex fabrications and/or assemblies
- Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting shop equipment
- Nondestructive Examination (NDE) Experience:
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
- Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)
- Visual Inspection (VT)
- Ability to interpret and understand inspection reports
- Demonstrated experience in accurate record keeping and documentation
- Skilled in writing or supporting technical instruction procedures
- Basic understanding of Formality of Operations and procedural compliance
- Experience performing complex mechanical fabrications and/or assemblies with minimal supervision.
- Proven ability to maintain, diagnose, and troubleshoot standard shop equipment and tools.
