Quality Engineer (R&D Engineer 1 )
You will contribute to quality engineering activities and operations in support of Detonator Production Quality Engineering and Inspection (PAQ-3) at TA-22. You will support the Weapons Production Directorate by ensuring quality assurance results, materials, processes, and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Engineering: Knowledge of and experience in engineering disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, nuclear, chemical, or industrial.
Inspection Design: Ability to interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics; familiarity with ASME Y14.5M standard.
Quality Knowledge: Experience conducting troubleshooting, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending resolutions using processes such as root cause analysis.
Quality Standards: Experience using national consensus standards of quality assurance, such as ASME, ISO, ANSI/ASME NQA-1, and NAP 401.1 (formerly NAP-24).
Technical Knowledge: Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of quality to both technical and non-technical personnel.
Project Support: Ability to support several concurrent projects in a challenging safety and/or security setting.
Education/Experience - R&D Engineer 1: This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution related to the occupation, and up to 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Quality Standards: Knowledge of and experience in interpreting and using national consensus standards of quality assurance, such as ASME AS9100, ISO 9001, ANSI/ASME NQA-1, and NAP 401.1A (formerly NAP-24).
Certification: Nationally recognized quality engineering certification such as American Society of Quality's Certified Quality Engineer, Reliability Engineer, or equivalent.
Quality Assurance: Knowledge of weapon quality system requirements.
Manufacturing: Experience working in the manufacturing sector.
Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
