What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Network Systems Technician level 2 or level 3, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
We are actively seeking a bright, curious, and creative technician (categorized depending on prior experience) to administer the performance and profile of networked computer systems in support of programmatic activities, provide technical assistance to computer system users, assure computer system configurations conform to Institutional security requirements, and support program functionality and champion the reliability of our systems.
Joining Los Alamos National Laboratory's (LANL) Accelerator Operations Technology (AOT) Division, Instrumentation and Controls Group (AOT-IC) you will work collaboratively with our Scientists and Engineers to maintain and support network systems critical to the safe and reliable operation of the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) accelerator complex.
Your responsibilities will include analyzing and solving problems associated with network switches, routers, modules, and all other aspects of a modern production controls system network.
As a semi-skilled level network systems technician, you will work in a highly dynamic and collaborative environment and will be evaluated on both the quality of your work and how it integrates into the success of simultaneous projects around LANSCE.

Network Systems Technician 2 ($53,700 - $82,500)
You will use your network administration experience to assist in maintaining the network across the accelerator complex. You will work collaboratively to handle user requests, troubleshoot networking issues, and upgrade equipment. You will have opportunities to work on specific projects involving more than one person and assist in setting scope, schedule and budget to meet the needs of a world-class science facility.
Network Systems Technician 3 ($59,200 - $91,600)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level, you. will use your network administration expertise to work autonomously and develop your own technical approaches to solving complex user issues. You will develop comprehensive test plans to validate the functionality and performance of network. You will also be able to analyze the network system, identify areas for improvement, and suggest enhancements to optimize the network's performance and reliability.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a high school diploma and 2-3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Due to federal restrictions contained in the current National Defense Authorization Act, citizens of the People's Republic of China-including the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau-as well as citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), and the Russian Federation, who are not Lawful Permanent Residents ("green card" holders) are prohibited from accessing facilities that support the mission, functions, and operations of national security laboratories and nuclear weapons production facilities, which includes Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. What You Need

- Demonstrated experience in areas such as Linux servers, network switches, firewalls, and associated infrastructure.
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience using basic hand tools, power tools, and network testing equipment.
- Experience with troubleshooting network issues.
- Availability for rotating on-call support and after-hours work when required.
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
- Experience configuring, managing, and monitoring a TCP/IP network using standard Linux tools.
- Demonstrated familiarity with Cisco networking products such as 9300 and 9400 series switches and DNA Center.
Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a high school diploma and 2-3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Experience configuring, installing, and troubleshooting networking equipment.
- Experience in developing and maintaining technical documentation.
