UX Design Operations Specialist

Job Summary

Our user experience team has over 100 passionate professionals with experience in user research, usability testing, and design. As strategic business partners, we work closely with our product teams and contribute throughout the product development life cycle to develop new products, features, and enhance legacy products.

Responsibilities

As a member of the UX Design Operations team, you will collaborate with designers, developers, and stakeholders across MathWorks to enhance and scale our design system. You will apply a systems-thinking mindset and a user-centered approach to improve design workflows, evolve shared standards, and enable consistent, high-quality user experiences across MathWorks products and applications.

  • Design Operations: Develop and maintain scalable processes, templates, and documentation that improve the efficiency and quality of UX design work across teams.

  • Figma Management: Govern Figma libraries, variables, and shared assets; support component naming, versioning, and usage analytics; and create documentation or tooling that supports designers’ adoption.

  • Design Standards: Author and maintain design standards and guidelines; collaborate with design leads and SMEs to ensure accuracy and clarity; support governance reviews and documentation updates.

  • Design System Website UX: Contribute to user experience and content structure of the Parula design system website; ensure standards and guidance are discoverable, consistent, and accessible.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with teams contributing to front-end frameworks, icons and graphics, design tokens, accessibility, and brand/marketing to ensure system-wide alignment and high-quality delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree and 6 years of professional work experience (or a master's degree and 3 years of professional work experience, or a PhD degree, or equivalent experience) is required.

Additional Qualifications

  • STEM Degree (e.g., Engineering, Learning Technology, Cognitive Sciences, Human Computer Interaction, or other relevant degree)
  • Proficiency with Figma or similar design tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud, Sketch), including library management, auto layout, components, and variables

  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills

  • Understanding of design systems, component-driven design, and accessibility fundamentals

  • Experience contributing to or managing design system websites a plus (e.g., WordPress, Storybook, Zeroheight)

  • Experience with basic development, automation flows, and AI prompt development a plus

  • Experience (especially administrative) in productivity tools such as Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint a plus
