Senior Application Engineer - Electrified Systems

Job Summary

Shape the way industry transitions to electrification through the use of modeling and simulation. By partnering with customers, you will help them advance their ability to develop and analyze electrical systems including power generation & conversion, power distribution & management, and energy storage applications.

In this pre-sales role, you will leverage your experience to understand and effectively communicate the benefits of MathWorks tools for electrified systems engineering. You will spend most of your time working with customers to understand their technical and business challenges and proposing solutions to improve their development cycles and methodologies.

Although this is a pre-sales position, it involves hands-on technical work, including developing models, simulations, and prototypes to showcase the value of MathWorks solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with prospective customers to understand their workflows, challenges, and goals, and recommend tailored solutions using MathWorks tools.
  • Design and develop compelling demonstrations—including programs, application examples, and simulations—that showcase how MathWorks software addresses customer needs.
  • Elaborate proof-of-concept based on customer use cases and data. Guide them on how to evaluate MathWorks solutions on a feasibility project.
  • Deliver presentations and live demos to audiences of varying sizes, from small technical teams to large conference settings.
  • Partner with sales representatives to align technical insights with strategic selling approaches, contributing to the achievement of sales objectives.
  • Advocate for the future direction of MathWorks products based on customer feedback and use cases.
  • Identify emerging application areas and work with development and marketing to craft appropriate messaging and demonstrations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree and 6 years of professional work experience (or a master's degree and 3 years of professional work experience, or a PhD degree, or equivalent experience) is required.

Additional Qualifications

  • Appetence for Model-Based Design methodology.
  • Background in controls, electrical and power generation & conversion engineering.
  • Background in power distribution & management.
  • Familiarity with the next generation microgrids, smart grids and energy storage systems.
  • Experience developing and verifying physical models for the purpose of control design, component sizing, and system performance evaluation.
  • Experience with MathWorks simulation tools (Simulink, Simscape) or other engineering tools such as LTspice, SIMPLIS, PLECS, PSIM or Modelica.
  • Experience in deploying physical models for real-time execution using hardware in the loop (HIL) systems.
  • Experience in deploying control algorithms on rapid prototyping setups.
  • Experience with automatic C-code generation for implementing real-time algorithms on production hardware
  • Fluency in French and English
  • High motivation to work directly with customers
  • Willingness to travel 20% to 40% of the time, mostly in France.
