We are seeking a highly skilled developer with expertise in research related to robotics and textiles. Apply your expertise in electromechanical design using softgoods, 3D knitting techniques and other textile manufacturing processes to build the future of robotics. Expect to be hands on designing, prototyping, and testing innovative solutions, and do so in collaboration with external teams.
Soft Goods Research Developer Responsibilities
- Develop new textile materials for robotics and wearables applications using 3D knitting, braiding, weaving etc. and various post processing methods, including lamination, overmolding, 3D printing, and more
- Work with researchers and engineers to identify short and long term plans for various designs, including but not limited to electrically, mechanically, thermally, and aesthetically tuned textiles
- Responsible for material and device fabrication from beginning to end of process, including sourcing novel materials, advising on test methods, and enabling positive handoff to partners
- Responsible for tracking quality control procedures and product as it moves through the manufacturing process
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree OR equivalent industry experience in a field related to robotics, wearable devices, and textiles, such as industrial design, fashion design, textile science, polymer and materials science, mechanical engineering, soft robotics
- 5+ years research or industry experience in smart textiles, robotics, wearables, or other high technology spaces employing textiles (e.g., architecture or aerospace)
- 5+ years experience working with 3D knitting machines and programming, and/or track record of working and communicating with other programmers to design garments and knit textiles
- 5+ years experience producing prototypes independently and with multidisciplinary teams
- Track record of organizational and communication skills, especially when working across disciplines
Preferred Qualifications
- Master Degree or equivalent experience in fields listed above
- 5+ Years Programming for Shima Seiki Apex systems and machines
- 5+ Years working in Computer Aided Design (CAD), Unigraphics NX, Solidworks or equivalent
- 5+ Years working with Adobe Illustrator or similar vector file graphics programs
- 2+ years experience with lamination, bonding, and/or leatherworking for wearable products
- 5+ years working with vendors and suppliers to source specialty materials for functional textile applications
- 5+ years working with Python, MATLAB or equivalent

$139,000/year to $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
