Overview
Develops process and production line capability to support end-to-end manufacture or fabrication of products, components, sub-assemblies, and/or final assemblies. Reviews both internal and external component/sub-component/device specification sheets and shares them to key stakeholders. Applies expertise through the use of predictive modeling techniques to inform manufacturing process design choices for a product, part, component, sub-assembly, or final assembly. Collaborates with Engineering on the product design to conduct product validation for one or more products. Drives suppliers to ensure yield and continuous improvements into mass production and/or repair processes. Identifies the most significant project risks at the outset of a project and drives plans to address those risks. Leads the development of qualification process and criteria to calibrate product quality.

Responsibilities
- Develops an understanding of predictive modeling techniques (e.g., tolerance analysis, Six Sigma) to inform and optimize manufacturing process design choices for a well-defined product, part, component, sub-assembly, or final assembly.
- Develops an understanding of how to monitor and maintain one portion of the manufacturing process. Assists senior engineers in identifying process improvements for their respective production area.
- Develops an understanding of how to reads component/sub-component/device specification sheets and interprets basic details required to produce, assemble, and/or qualify hardware features with guidance from others.
- Designs and builds a product component or sub-assembly under the guidance of others. Ensures that it functions properly once produced. Partners with Reliability teams or qualifies a product under extreme/outlying conditions under the guidance of senior engineers. Ensures that it functions properly under varying conditions. Assists senior engineers in simulating high-volume manufacturing and/or repair processes. Assists senior engineers to ensure the products, components, or sub-assemblies can be sustainably mass-produced over time.
- Develops an understanding of common project risks (e.g., supplier or partner delays, incomplete specs, tool issues), and assists senior engineers in developing plans to address those risks. Develops an understanding of how to identify opportunities that affect downstream execution of projects by resolving issues and implementing manufacturing tradeoffs within scope under the guidance of senior engineers (e.g., elegance versus repairability).
- Develops an understanding of how to maintain contact and relationships with factory and/or supplier stakeholders to drive yield. Assists senior engineers in validating qualification results, reviewing production risks, and taking inputs from supplier(s). Supports efforts to ensure that work is done in parallel with suppliers by helping to review, provide input, and observe suppliers each step of the process as needed based on their understanding.
- Develops qualification process and criteria to calibrate product quality (e.g., dimension cosmetic).
