The Azure High Performance Computing & Artificial Intelligence (HPC & AI) compute platform team defines and delivers the hardware roadmap, software, and services that enable our users to run technical computing workloads in Azure – extreme scale AI training and inference including large language models, traditional HPC modelling and simulations, remote visualization, and immersive gaming experiences. We are responsible for providing Azure customers with supercomputer-class capabilities to accelerate their research, drive competitive differentiation, and finding answers to some of the most difficult questions about science and industry.

We’re seeking a Program Manager II to own the pre-dock phase of infrastructure cluster deployments. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of infrastructure deployments, and a proven track record working with complex and distributed engineering systems used in operating large-scale cloud solutions. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing all the pre-dock lifecycle activities and serve as the primary point of contact for regular reporting to leadership.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 2+ years' experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of program or project management experience in cloud infrastructure, hardware operations, or supply chain coordination.
  • 1+ years of experience delivering software features in a fast-paced online services environment.
  • Familiarity with data center infrastructure and rack-level planning.
    1+ years experience working with engineering teams to translate business and technical requirements into structured documentation.
    Proficient organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail and follow-through.

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 5+ years of experience in product/service/project/program management
    • OR software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of Data center design/build, hardware lifecycle, vendor management, and inventory/supply chain logistics.
  • Exposure to InfiniBand, RDMA, GPU backend networking environments, Capacity delivery (GPU preferred) planning, supply and execution business.
  • 2+ years experience with infrastructure telemetry, or deployment tooling. Interest in automation, process optimization, and scalable frameworks.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and adapt to changing priorities.

Product Management IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring system readiness for buildout when expensive GPU racks arrive at the datacenter.
  • Collaborate with engineering partners across datacenter, networking and supply chain organizations to ensure all the logical artifacts and metadata—rack layouts, cabling maps, firmware matrices, and configuration templates - are created for deployments out of critical path.
  • Coordinate with supply chain/logistics and infrastructure buildout teams to ensure readiness of materials and supporting infrastructure.
  • Participate in cross-functional syncs to ensure alignment and resolve blockers in the pre-dock phase. Drive risk mitigation and close readiness gaps.
  • Drive continuous process improvements and automation efforts in planning and pre-dock execution workflows.
