Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the CHSE (Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for talented engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience
- OR equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience executing hardware validation and functional test plans
- 2+ years of experience debugging board and system level issues for Cloud Servers
Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of relevant hands-on experience in system (compute, storage, networking, and/or accelerator) level design and/or implementation across the hardware development lifecycle
- Experience with high volume hardware production in server area
- Experience with high-speed/high-power product design and interfaces (PCIe, DDR, Ethernet)
- Knowledge about datacenters & operations at scale
- In-depth experience with operating systems (Windows and/or Linux), system firmware (BIOS, BMC), and system security (hardware and software)
- Experience writing test scripts in python or similar language
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work across multiple disciplines (hardware, firmware, software, and/or data center infrastructure) to identify risks, drive discussions, detail system tradeoffs, and assess impact
- Excellent team player
Electrical Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities
- Design electrical circuits based on customer and architectural specifications. Document those designs in HW specifications and block diagrams. For early POC work develop initial schematics and layout using the Allegro design suite and/or 3rd party design firms.
- Collaborate with internal design team (thermal, mechanical, firmware, OS) and external partner (ODM/OEM) for design implementation, ensure product functionality, performance, quality and reliability.
- Collaborate with ODM EE, SI, and power teams to do detailed EE design work, fabricate the boards, and complete EE verification to ensure the design meets quality and performance requirements. This oversight includes participating in cross functional and ODM, MSFT working meetings, providing block diagrams, specifications and test plans, and reviewing SI, PI and lab test reports.
- Test and debug hardware. This includes having excellent hardware debug and lab skills, being able to modify a board to enable probing if needed, write and execute test scripts, and operate complex test and measurement equipment (oscopes, programmable power supplies, protocol analyzers, are some examples).
- Responsible for thorough and deep design reviews, including schematics, board files, BOM, DFT, DFM, etc.
- Define board level bring-up and electrical test requirements, ensure complete coverage, execute or guarantee execution.
- Work with partner teams to create EE bring-up and end-to-end validation test plans, ensure complete coverage, guarantee execution.
- Must be a team player and demonstrate motivation to be a member of a high performing EE team
