Overview

We are looking to welcome a Senior Software Engineer to a group of innovative, energetic and diverse engineers on the Copilot team. You will work closely across disciplines to help create and enhance model powered capabilities (as new Reasoning models are developed) and enable Copilot to be an awesome end-end experience across all Desktop and Mobile canvases for Text, Image, Audio and other multi modal formats. You will be responsible for building scalable and performant backend services to implement and deliver cutting-edge features. This involves defining the architecture, implementation plan, ensuring everything is tested and robust, and improving processes to contribute to our best practices. You will be working in a multi discipline, high agility and dynamic team to rapidly innovate against competitive offerings from industry.


The MSAI (Microsoft Search, Assistant and Intelligence) team leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the center of its mission through M365 Copilot to enable unbounded efficiency and productivity for all our customers. M365 Copilot (BizChat) is the front and center of AI experiences across M365. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in designing, building, and managing available and distributed large-scale services.
  • 4+ years of experience with cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, GCP, or others.

Other Requirements:


Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and implements software to deliver solutions across M365 Copilot Chat and M365 Copilot platform.
  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders from multiple services and organizations across M365 to determine user requirements for complex scenarios for rapidly evolving Copilot ecosystem.
  • Leverages subject-matter expertise of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive product's project plans, release plans, and work items.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions. As a DRI, reproduce, debug and fix customer-reported problems.
  • Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for the product, application, service, or platform.
  • Leads by example and mentors others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across the team.
  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.
