Overview
As a Principal Software Engineer - M365 Copilot App on the team, you will be responsible for designing, building and running the Copilot application across Windows, Mac, and Web platforms. You will lead architectural decisions and contribute hands-on code to build applications, balancing innovation with platform stability. You will work closely with other engineers to take ideas through design, implementation, validation, and release. You will write secure, reliable, scalable code as well as test automation and telemetry to measure its behavior in production. You will work in a fast paced, collaborative environment to design, prototype, implement, and ship features. You will partner across multiple product and platform teams in Microsoft and define reusable architectural patterns and techniques that enable consistent and intelligent user experiences at scale. You will mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical capabilities in architecture, performance profiling, and cross-platform design systems. You will provide engineering leadership to the team taking on technical issues inherent in building and delivering a consumer-grade application that powers cross-platform AI experiences.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.

- 4+ years experience developing, deploying, and maintaining one or more large scale Windows, Mac, or Web applications.
- 4+ years experience designing, implementing, and debugging application and frontend code.
- 3+ years experience mentoring and guiding other engineers.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities
- Partners with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements across different scenarios.
- Leads identification of dependencies and development of design documents for the application and service.
- Assists others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.
- Leverages subject-matter knowledge of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items.
- Guides and mentors engineers across the team, working on-call to monitor the product for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
- Seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of the product while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.
