Azure Front Door (AFD) is an Edge Distribution Platform providing application delivery, global load balancing, acceleration, security, and intelligent routing for some of Microsoft’s most critical services—Office 365, Xbox, LinkedIn, Azure Services—as well as thousands of enterprise customers worldwide. We operate on an Internet scale, handling millions of requests per second across thousands of servers globally.
We are looking for a Software Engineer (SDE 2) to join the AFD team. As part of this team, you will develop and improve globally distributed, highly available, and performant services that customers rely on to deliver secure and fast Internet applications. The work spans areas such as network services, application delivery, security, management and control plane integration, and customer experience. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Understanding of software engineering fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
- OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience developing large-scale distributed systems, online services, or cloud solutions.
- Familiarity with concepts like high availability, scalability, and microservices architecture.
- Experience developing RESTful APIs and/or working on SDKs.
- Proficient debugging, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Growth mindset and ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment

Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and maintain features for Azure Front Door services to improve performance, scalability, security, and reliability.
- Work with teammates to design components, review code, and ensure high-quality delivery.
- Participate in operational excellence activities, analyzing telemetry, diagnosing issues, and driving improvements for monitoring and resilience of services.
- Collaborate across teams including networking, security, and Azure platform to deliver integrated solutions.
- Contribute to API design and management tools that enable customers to easily configure and operate their AFD deployments.
- Continuously learn and adopt new technologies and patterns to improve development, deployment, and operational processes.
