The Data Processing Unit (DPU) team brings together state-of-the-art software and hardware expertise to create a highly programmable and high-performance ASIC with the capability to efficiently handle large data streams. Thanks to its integrated design, this solution empowers teams to operate with increased agility and deliver significantly superior performance compared to CPU-based alternatives.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our DPU Runtime Operating System team responsible for developing cutting edge, high-performance, scalable and programmable DPU software. We seek a system generalist that will focus on developing high performance operating systems and runtime components, supporting software, tools, and processes.

You will be spearheading efforts within our DPU Confidential Compute team, focusing on the development, maintenance, and review of software for the creation and integration of security features, , in-service software update services (ISSU), to enable our next-generation of confidential compute and advanced update capabilities.

You will bring your operating systems, and embedded development experience to contribute to DPU driver code and related host software and support. Your contributions will have a wide impact across Azure through the development of the latest generation DPU-based products.

Qualifications

Required

  • 8+ years of C/C++ programming experience
  • 3+ years of Computer Architecture and Operating Systems experience, with contributions to operating systems kernels, drivers, or other software.
  • 3+ years of broad systems generalist experience with demonstrated initiative in working beyond core competencies to solve problems, address defects, and enhance productivity.

Preferred

  • 1+ years of experience leveraging AI technologies to boost personal or team productivity.
  • Experience with simulation and emulation
  • Experience with deploying Software and/or Platforms at scale

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and design firmware and software for the DPU Runtime Operating System
  • Develop firmware update middleware and operating system capabilities.
  • Develop, maintain and debug DPU issues, with a productivity boosting mindset.
  • Design and implement improvements to make development and production debugging easier.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to other developers.
  • Work closely with both Software and ASIC teams on co-development of next generation Silicon.
