Overview

The Microsoft Azure Cloud Experiences Studio is seeking a motivated, creative, and customer-focused (User Experience) UX Researcher. As a part of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll directly influence and help create the next generation of cloud infrastructure and realizing our goal of creating the World's Computer. Cloud infrastructure is the foundation for everything Microsoft builds to empower customers worldwide. As a UX Researcher, you will drive human-centered strategy, set product direction, and contribute directly to ongoing product development by integrating insights into human behaviors, attitudes, practices, and norms. Working with product partners, you will drive short and long-term research plans to fill in knowledge gaps, prioritize inclusion, identify risks, inform product decisions, and conduct analyses to distill quantitative and qualitative data into actionable insights that represent the voice of the customer. You will have the opportunity to work within a complex space that involves engaging with and balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders, allowing you to broaden your influence and impact across the organization. This role empowers you to practice a wide range of research strategies and methodologies—from generative to evaluative to predictive—supporting innovative product development and iteration. You will be at the forefront of shaping the future of AI, applying your expertise to influence how intelligent technologies are designed and delivered. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with a world-class UX team, learning from and contributing to a diverse group of experts dedicated to creating exceptional user experiences.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences
    • OR related field AND 2+ years User Experience Research experience
    • OR Master's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences
    • OR related field AND 1+ year(s) User Experience Research experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience in mixed (quantitative and qualitative) methods studies such as surveys and telemetry analyses.
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

UX Research IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Determine which mixed methods research to use and apply it, combining qualitative sense-making with rigorous statistical analysis, to distill complex data into actionable insights for a feature area, and sharing these insights in accessible ways that influence design and engineering decisions.
  • Drive research that defines the customer and informs product strategy for a feature area.
  • Take ownership of creating new solutions and conducting UX testing to uncover insights for continuous improvement, including Diversity & Inclusion and accessibility.
  • Analyze the user funnels, using mixed methods approaches to understand behavior patterns, churn drivers, and the underlying rationale for feature adoption.
  • Contribute to cross-disciplinary research efforts, mentoring other disciplines and independently managing research tools, recruitment programs, and large-scale customer learning events.
